The Acura Division of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., introduces the five-cylinder 1993 Vigor personal performance sports sedan. In its second year of production, the Vigor embodies the most advanced aspects of automotive technology, bringing an elevated level of refinement and performance to the personal sports sedan class.
The Vigor is positioned between the Acura Legend and Acura Integra in both size and price. "We see the Acura Vigor as a personal sports sedan that offers a perfect balance of performance and luxury. The Vigor has moved Acura into another segment of the marketplace and has further broadened the appeal of the entire Acura line of performance luxury automobiles," said Ed Taylor, vice president, Acura Division. The Vigor is powered by a 2.5-liter, all-aluminum, inline five-cylinder engine, producing 176 horsepower and 170 lbs-ft of torque. A single overhead camshaft actuates four valves per cylinder, and a Dual-Stage Induction System increases torque throughout the rev range. Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FD is controlled by an advanced microprocessor, to help achieve excellent engine response and fuel-efficient operation under all driVing conditions.
The engine/transmission package is longitudinally mounted to attain the optimum 60/40 front/rear mass distribution for a front-wheel-drive luxury Sports sedan. Additional engineering features include a Formula One racing inSpired, four-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension system and a speed-sensitive, variable power-assisted, rack-and-pinion steering system. The Vigor is fitted with 205/60 R15 91H M+ S All Season radial tires.
Available in two trim levels, all Vigor models feature four-wheel disc brakes and a sophisticated Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS). A standard driver's side air bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) augments the primary three-point lap and shoulder belts in all Vigor models, while the GS model features a standard passengers's side air bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) as well.
Standard interior appointments on the Vigor LS include cruise control, power windows, power door locks, a theft-deterrent system, a tilt-adjustable steering column, fine-finished wood trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and an 8-speaker AM/FM stereo/cassette unit with an anti-theft feature. The even more luxuriously appointed GS model also includes a leather-trimmed interior, power moonroof and the innovative Digital Signal Processor (DSP) audio system.
Like all Acura automobiles, the Vigor is covered by a 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty. The Vigor with manual transmission achieves an impressive 20 mpg/city and 27 mpg/highway, while the automatic transmission achieves an equally impressive 20 mpg/city and 26 mpg/highway. Prices for the 1993 Vigor range from $24,265 for the LS with manual transmission, to $27,500 for the top-of-the-line GS with automatic transmission.
