September Acura Sales Up 2.8 Percent

September sales of Acura vehicles totaled 12,873, up 877 units or 2.8 percent based on 24 selling days versus 23 selling days a year ago, Acura announced today.

Strong demand for the MDX luxury SUV resulted in a new model year record of 55,715 units compared to 49,760 for 2002. Acura year-to-date light-truck sales of 41,617 were also up 7.1 percent compared to 2002. In addition, MDX set a new September sales record of 4,589, up 17.2 percent, compared to 3,753 a year ago.

Acura division automobile sales for September totaled 8,284 with TL sales totaling 3,657. The new 2004 TSX sports sedan continued to sell well in the sports sedan segment with a September total of 2,094 units sold. Sales of the RSX sports coupe totaled 1,483. Model year sales for the division totaled 162,706 units.

The all-new 2004 TL, featuring updated styling, more horsepower and segment-leading state-of-the-art electronic equipment, goes on sale October 6. The new TL boasts a 270-horsepower V-6 engine, choice of 5-speed Sequential SportShift' automatic transmission or a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission, the industry's first standard DVD-Audio 5.1 surround sound system and HandsFreeLink' phone system utilizing Bluetooth technology that allows calls to be made using the car's voice recognition and audio controls.
