Honda's Accord and Civic were the two best-selling cars in American in August, according to industry sales figures.
Accord is the best-selling car to date for both the 2001 model year and 2001 calendar year and lengthened its lead compared to second place Toyota Camry and third place Ford Taurus.
Civic, which was all-new at the start of the 2001 model year, is the perennial small car sales leader. The Civic tops the segment for both the model and calendar years and is the fourth best-selling car overall. The Civic's August sales total of 36,533 was the best month in the car's 28-year history.
"Consumers put value at the top of every list of purchase reasons for the Accord and Civic," said Dick Colliver, American Honda executive vice president. "In this times of economic uncertainty, value plays an even more important role in major purchase decisions."
Both cars are produced at Honda manufacturing facilities in Ohio using both domestic and globally-sourced parts and materials.
