America’s best-selling car over the last five decades, the Honda Accord was first introduced to American car buyers in 1976 and helped establish the midsize sedan segment. The all-new 2023 Honda Accord reinvigorates the midsize sedan segment with an elegant and sophisticated design and a fuel-efficient yet sporty and exhilarating driving experience.

Accord is available in six trim levels, starting with the turbocharged LX and EX and topped by the hybrid-powered Sport, EX-L, Sport-L and Touring. Sleek New Styling
The 2023 Accord features all-new elegant and sophisticated styling that further advances the Honda design direction, with long, clean body lines and a strong, powerful front end.

Blacked out LED headlights are standard and Accord’s expressive wide, upright grille is flanked by air curtain inlets that route air through the bumper and around the front wheels, improving aerodynamic efficiency.

For an upscale look, Accord uses laser brazing technology along the roof, eliminating the need for roof molding to create a smooth and clean roof line. The keyhole also has been eliminated from the door handles and the active shutter grille closes automatically when the vehicle is parked.

A longer hood and flowing fastback roofline create a premium silhouette. A sharp upper character line running the length of the body creates a sense of motion and highlights Accord’s increased overall length, which has grown 2.7 inches. All 2023 Accords also feature a 0.4-inch wider rear track for a broader stance and improved stability. Distinctive wide, horizontal LED straight-line “flush” taillights accentuate Accord’s wide stance.

Each Accord grade features distinct design details. LX, EX and EX-L trims sport a black grille mesh and body-color side mirrors. Large 17-inch alloy wheels (Blade Silver on LX and Pewter Gray on EX and EX-L) with 225/50R17 all-season tires are standard.

Sport and Sport-L get even dynamic styling with black side mirrors, a black rear spoiler and black 19-inch alloy wheels (Berlina Black with machined face on Sport, and Matte Berlina Black on Sport-L). Sport-L models also add a unique black rear diffuser. For a sporty, athletic stance and sharp handling, large 235/40R19 all-season tires are standard.

The top-level Touring trim features unique Berlina Black with machined face 19-inch alloy wheels along with silver and black exterior trim for a sharp, high-contrast look.

Active Shutter Grille System
Honda's Active Shutter Grille system reduces aerodynamic drag at cruising speeds to help improve fuel efficiency. Located behind the upper grille opening, the four shutters open or close simultaneously to control the amount of air flowing through the engine's radiator and the air conditioner's condenser. The system is designed to keep the shutters closed as much as possible to minimize aerodynamic drag – even in city driving. For a cleaner look, the active shutter grille now closes automatically when the vehicle is parked.

Eight Eye-Catching Colors

More Comfortable Body Stabilizing Seats
Accord features Body Stabilizing Seats up front, which firmly hold the body, reduce fatigue and enhance comfort, especially on long drives. New to Accord, this front seat design uses multiple internal structures to provide improved support across the entire body, including a resin mat that supports the area from the pelvis to the lumbar spine for a more stable and solid seating feel. Forward and lateral pelvic tilt are reduced by the new curve of the seat bottom.

An inner frame on the seat bottom stabilizes the hip to reduce movement and posture changes during the various G forces the user may experience while driving. The seat also centers the upper body over the pelvis, helping to stabilize the upper arms and the eyesight of the driver, making it easier to drive.

Improved Visibility
Outward visibility is notably improved by Accord’s new open and airy greenhouse and windshield wipers that are now hidden from the driver’s view when not in use. Further improving visibility is the clean surfacing atop Accord’s wide instrument panel, designed with minimal cutlines to reduce windshield reflections.

Reduced Cabin Noise
A new carpet insulator, thicker dashboard insulator and a new cover for the Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) of the rear seat belts reduce noise entering the cabin. For Accord Touring, acoustic laminated windshield glass with a total thickness of 4.7 mm is tuned specifically to attenuate wind and urban noise frequencies. Touring also features 4.7 mm acoustic laminated front door glass.

Active Noise Control (ANC) reduces unpleasant booming noise in the cabin. Standard on hybrid models, Active Sound Control (ASC) enhances the sound of the engine in Sport mode for a sportier and more enjoyable driving experience.

Accord’s new wheels feature a noise-reducing design with a resonator and a resin molding applied in a band on the rim inside the tire. The result is reduced noise resonance in the air column inside the wheel. One important benefit of the noise-reducing wheel technology is a noticeable reduction in audible thumping or bumping noises when Accord crosses expansion joints on the roadway.

Expansive Storage and Cargo Space
The all-new interior offers a range of convenient storage features for the driver and passengers. The center console is specially engineered to offer a sporty appearance coupled with the versatile usability that includes a large central storage compartment topped with a comfortable padded flip-up armrest and a convenient smartphone tray ahead of the shifter.

A pair of large convenient cupholders are positioned alongside the transmission controls. There also is a small tray between cupholder and center armrest and a total of eight drink holders in the front and rear to meet the needs of the driver and every passenger.

All-New 4th-generation Two-Motor Hybrid System
All Accord hybrid trims – Sport, EX-L, Sport-L and Touring – feature the all-new, two-motor hybrid system produced¹ at Honda’s Ohio Transmission Plant. With 247 lb.-ft. of torque – a 15 lb.-ft. improvement (+6.5%) delivers greater performance than the previous Accord hybrid.

An all-new, more refined 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle 4-cylinder engine, now with direct fuel injection, is mated to the two larger and more powerful electric motors of the new hybrid system, which are now mounted side-by-side, rather than in-line as in previous generations.

Total system horsepower for the new Accord hybrid trims is now calculated using the ISO measurement standard. Using this method, the total output is 204 hp vs. 202 hp for the 2022 model. 

The individual horsepower output of the two electric motors in the new Accord are higher than the outgoing model. The new traction motor spins at 14,500 rpm and produces 181 horsepower. The generator motor, which spins at 17,000 rpm, puts out 161 horsepower, and is dedicated to charging the battery pack.

Quietness has been improved during idling and power generation by incorporating a pre-damper into the flywheel that reduces torque fluctuations from the engine, suppressing vibration at low rpm/low torque speeds.

Mounted under the rear seat, the new Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) containing the battery pack and its controlling hardware is smaller and lighter. The 9% smaller size of the IPU allowed for the cooling fan to be fully integrated into the unit, rather than externally mounted

The Power Control Unit (PCU) housed under the hood has 6% more maximum output. It also has a lower profile, which allows for the use of a larger resonator for the engine intake to reduce noise. A new lighter DC cable with aluminum stranded wire weighs 35% less.

The new hybrid system also incorporates Linear Shift Control, which creates the feel of a conventional drivetrain shifting gears at wide open throttle for a more exhilarating driving experience.

In addition, the new Accord now has six levels of deceleration available (a first for Honda) through the selector paddles on the steering wheel. This allows dramatically improved deceleration rates when using the paddles, enabling Accord to be driven in a “one pedal”-like style. The multiple levels also provide greater freedom of control during deceleration.

The new hybrid-electric system also allows for a substantial increase in continuous maximum speed—which climbs 29 mph.

All-New Direct Injected 2.0-liter Atkinson-Cycle Engine (hybrids)
Introduced in the 2023 CR-V, Honda’s new two-motor hybrid system also features an all-new 2.0-liter DOHC 4-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine with improved power, refinement and environmental performance. Since the gasoline engine can be decoupled from the rest of the hybrid powertrain, it only operates as needed, depending on the state of battery charge and other parameters.

With sales of the new 2023 CR-V and Accord hybrid trims representing about 50% of the sales mix of each model annually, production volume of the new engine and hybrid system have dramatically increased. For the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio, where the 2.0-liter engine is produced, this radical increase included more in-house production of engine components and an increase in local sourcing for parts previously supplied from Japan.

All the engine’s major components have been redesigned and improved, including the block, which now features stronger main bearing caps, cylinder head, crank, connecting rods and camshafts. For the first time these components are manufactured at the Anna Engine Plant, improving production efficiencies and increasing capacity. To control high exhaust gas temperatures, the new cylinder head uses a new two-piece water jacket, new gas-cooling exhaust ports and a large capacity EGR cooler. The compression ratio also has been raised from 13.5:1 to 13.9:1, improving power and efficiency.

Peak output for the four-cylinder engine improves to 146 horsepower (SAE net at 6,100 rpm) and 134 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net at 4,500 rpm), resulting in gains of 3 hp and 5 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2.0-liter is the first Honda engine for the North American market to combine high-pressure direct-injection with multistage injection for an extremely homogeneous mixture that delivers clean combustion. It also improves the stoichiometric area of the engine at higher loads by up to 30% and improves the heat efficiency of the engine to nearly 41%.

Critical to the operation of the Atkinson-cycle engine is a lightweight DOHC cylinder head, with Variable Timing Control (VTC) on both the intake and exhaust cams.

To further reduce emissions, a new low-temperature active catalyst with a low level of noble metals, drops NOx emissions by 24%, and total hydrocarbon emissions by 22%, giving Accord hybrids a LEV3 SULEV 30 rating.

Engine sound is now better synchronized with vehicle speed for more natural and relaxed feel. The engine also features a more rigid crankshaft and secondary balancer to reduce vibration. A new all-urethane engine cover reduces noise from the new direct-injection system.

Refined 1.5-Liter Turbo Powertrain on LX and EX
The direct-injected 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine under the hood of LX and EX grades has been updated and refined, demonstrating that even as Honda heads into the electrified era, the company continues to make important improvements in the efficiency and performance of internal combustion engine technology.

Multiple enhancements to the 1.5-liter turbo provide a more refined driving experience and improved emissions performance. Running on regular unleaded gas, the engine produces 192 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm (SAE net) and 192 lb.-ft. (SAE net) of torque from 1,700-5,000 rpm.

The 1.5-liter DOHC 16-valve VTEC® Turbo engine uses a high-efficiency high-response turbocharger, an electrically actuated wastegate and an advanced valve control system to combine high power output with high fuel efficiency and low emissions. The system combines intake and exhaust Variable Timing Control (dual VTC), which continuously adjusts the intake and exhaust camshaft phase, with Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC), which changes valve lift, timing and duration of the exhaust valves.

In this application, the increased valve lift from VTEC operation varies to improve gas scavenging at low speed, part throttle conditions, as well as higher speed, full throttle operation, helping to improve performance across the engine speed range. The exhaust manifold has a unique 4-into-2 design that consolidates the exhaust from the number 1 and 4 cylinders into one port, and the number 2 and 3 cylinders in a separate port. This reduces exhaust pulse interference, improving intake and exhaust efficiency, especially at low engine speeds.

For emissions, a new catalytic converter that minimizes the use of rare metals is used, helping Accord achieve LEV3 SULEV 30 emissions certification. Further aiding fuel economy and reducing emissions is an idle-stop system that turns off the engine at stoplights.

Engine noise has been significantly reduced by a new high-rigidity crankshaft and oil pan.

CVT: More Responsive, Reduced Noise
The continuously variable transmission (CVT) for the 1.5-liter turbo engine features reduced drive belt noise. Significant improvements to drivability and response include Step-Shift programming that simulates gear changes at full throttle.

New Drive Modes
Drivers can seamlessly switch between selectable drive modes to optimize the Accord’s driving experience for various conditions with pre-set performance settings for powertrain response, steering assist level, gauge cluster layout and adaptive cruise-control settings. Normal and Econ modes are standard. Hybrid models (Sport, EX-L, Sport-L, Touring) also feature a new Sport mode for more response and a new Individual mode that enables customization of the driving experience.

A new damper mount bearing and ball joint reduce system friction by 33%.

The lightweight lower suspension arms are aluminum for reduced suspension inertia, the front hub carriers are steel, and all Accord trims use a tubular front stabilizer bar with bonded mounts for smoother functionality. Specially calibrated geometry ensures a high degree of quickness and precision, smoothness and stability.

Independent Multi-Link Rear Suspension
Accord’s multi-link rear suspension includes stamped-steel arms, cast-aluminum hub carriers and a stabilizer bar. Mounted on a floating type steel subframe, the rear suspension provides agile handling, both during normal driving and in emergency maneuvers, together with a flat ride. The rear track has been widened 0.4 inches to improve stability.

The trailing arms are located on the unibody with 10% larger compliance bushings for a smoother ride and exceptional refinement while maintaining precise handling. All Accord trims use a solid rear stabilizer bar for crisp turn-in and body roll control.

Dual Pinion Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPS)
Electric Power Steering (EPS) incorporates dual pinion gears for steering feel, performance and comfort that is unsurpassed in the class. Compared to a traditional single-pinion steering system, the dual pinion EPS utilizes the physical steering input from the driver as well as from a supplemental electric motor. A non-contact torque sensor measures the driver's steering effort, and an ECU determines how much electric motor assist to apply, resulting in smooth, natural and precise steering feel.

A new steering column bearing improves the smoothness of the steering, enabling confident, precise steering control and easy low-speed maneuverability.

Straight Driving Assist
Accord’s Straight Driving Assist function reduces the steering effort required when driving on a sloped or crowned road. When the Straight Driving Assist system detects that steering effort is being applied to keep the car driving along a slope, the Electric Power Steering system applies motor assist. This reduces the muscle effort required to maintain the desired direction on the sloped road to the same level as is required on a flat road.

New Motion Management System
Standard on Accord hybrid trims is the first application of Honda’s new Motion Management System, which improves handling and driver confidence through integrated control of the powertrain and braking system in accordance with the driver’s steering operation.

The new Motion Management System improves corner traceability, overall cornering ability and promotes confident handling feel. By reducing powertrain output and applying braking force in certain cornering conditions, the system increases front axle load, thus generating more turning force and reducing understeer. The vehicle better follows the steering operation of the driver, especially in wet or snowy conditions and tight corners.

Large Four-Wheel Disc Brakes
Accord’s brake controllability is improved by optimizing software for deceleration relative to tread force and pedal stroke.

All Accord models are equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes with a 4-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist for confident stops. The ventilated front brake disc diameter is 11.5 inches on LX and EX and 12.3 inches on hybrid models. Rear brake disc diameter is 11.1 inches on all models.

The system utilizes a large-diameter master cylinder to achieve a short-travel, firm pedal. On LX and EX, an Electronic Brake Booster (EBB) uses an electronic servomotor to assist braking performance while improving brake feel and pedal modulation in virtually all conditions. The result is a comfortable and refined braking feel at low speeds, predictable and easy operation on the highway, a sporty feel on winding roads, and reassuring high-performance stopping in emergency situations.

Improved Honda Sensing®
The 11th-generation Accord is a leader in midsize sedan safety features thanks to advanced active and passive safety technology that comes standard on every Accord. This includes an expanded and enhanced Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver assistive systems that integrates a new front sensor camera and millimeter-wave radar.

The new camera features a 90-degree field of view, up from 50 degrees on the previous generation. The radar is now mounted directly behind the Honda logo on the grille, which helps to increase its field of view to 120-degrees from the 50 degrees on the previous generation.

These wide angles improve collision prevention performance to recognize the attributes of objects such as vehicles or pedestrians, as well as white lines and road boundaries such as curbs and road signs.

The camera detects the feature points of a target and recognizes the attributes of objects such as vehicles or pedestrians. With the use of an exceptionally fast processor, the system measures distance and the lateral position of objects based on the change in the size of the target object, how long it took for the change to occur and the speed of the vehicle.

EX-L and above grades feature four sonar sensors on the front of the vehicle and four on the back that significantly improve the detection of non-metallic objects such as glass and external exterior walls.

Honda Sensing® functions include:

  • New: Traffic Jam Assist (TJA): TJA works in conjunction with ACC and LKAS to provide lane-keeping functions at speeds below approximately 45 mph all the way to a standstill, such as in congested traffic.
  • Traffic Sign Recognition System (TSR): Accord’s front sensor camera automatically recognizes traffic speed limit signs, displaying the information on the digital meter immediately after the sign is passed.
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™): Accord’s new front sensor camera and radar enables the use of CMBS™ in more situations, including the detection of pedestrians and bicyclists. If no corrective action is taken when FCW signals an alert, CMBS™ can apply different levels of autonomous braking action to help reduce vehicle speed and eventual collision forces, and therefore to help reduce the severity of a collision.
  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW, integrated with CMBS™): When the FCW system determines a collision is possible with a detected vehicle, visual and audible alerts prompt the driver to take corrective actions.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow (ACC): Accord’s new front sensor camera and radar improve Adaptive Cruise Control with more natural brake feel and quicker reactions to changes in traffic. It also responds more quickly when changing into an open lane from behind a slower car and better maintains a constant vehicle speed in downhill situations. The system also switches acceleration characteristics according to the drive mode.
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS): LKAS reduces the need for steering correction movements and driving effort. For the 2023 Accord, LKAS has been improved with more linear and natural feeling steering assist, better line tracing in corners, and improved resistance to crosswinds.
  • Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM): RDM identifies solid or dashed painted lane lines, Botts' dots and cat’s-eye markers to find the edge of the road and uses steering force to keep the vehicle from departing the lane or roadway altogether. The detection range is expanded up to road shoulders and curbs because of the wide-angle detection sensor.
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW): Integrated with RDM, LDW operates at speeds from approximately 45 to 90 mph and is designed to alert the driver if the vehicle is leaving a detected lane without the turn signal being activated.
  • Blind Spot Information (BSI) system: BSI uses millimeter-wave radar installed on the rear corners of the vehicle to detect vehicles approaching from the rear, signaling the driver with a visual and audible warning. For the 2023 Accord the warning distance has been increased to further improve the detection performance of overtaking vehicles.
  • Low Speed Braking Control: Standard on Accord Touring, this system utilizes four sonar sensors on the front of the vehicle, and four on the back, which enable the implementation of the assistive braking and the assistive driving power, to reduce the likelihood of low-speed collisions, such as in parking situations.

Additional Safety and Driver Assistive Technologies
Accord features a Driver Attention Monitor, which continually monitors and assesses driver behavior behind the wheel to help determine if the driver is becoming inattentive. If it detects fatigue, the driver is alerted by a coffee cup icon and a 4-level bar graph on the instrument meter. As the driver's attention drops, fewer and fewer bars are illuminated, and when it drops to two, the system displays a message inviting the driver to take a break. If the driver continues driving and the graph drops to the lowest level of one bar, a beeper sounds and the steering wheel vibrates, prompting the driver to pay closer attention or take a rest break.

Rear Seatbelt Reminder and Rear Seat Reminder are standard. When exiting the vehicle, Rear Seat Reminder notifies drivers with a graphic on the driver information interface and an audible alert to check the rear seating area for children, pets or other precious cargo. Expanded standard security features now include a stolen vehicle locator, remote immobilizer, and a Find-My-Vehicle function.

ACE™ Body Structure and Collision Protection
Designed to meet present and anticipated future collision standards while minimizing additional weight, Accord features the newest version of Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure. ACE was introduced nearly two decades ago and has been continuously advanced, designed to protect vehicle occupants and improve crash compatibility between vehicles of varying sizes, such as an SUV and a small car.

Targeting today’s Top Safety Pick+ and NHTSA 5-star ratings, the 11th-generation Accord is designed to meet the new Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Side Impact Crashworthiness Evaluation (SICE) 2.0 as well as anticipated future standards.

This latest version of the ACE structure in the new Accord features a new structure that incorporates many of the new features introduced on the 11th-generation Civic and 2023 HR-V and CR-V. This includes a robust upper member constructed of high-strength steel, and an A-pillar structure, side frame and lower firewall structure all designed to route crash energy around the cabin, especially in oblique impacts.

Additionally, side impact protection has been enhanced to meet new, tougher side-impact standards. A new, stiffer B-pillar and side sills are used, along with stronger door stiffening beams and a stronger rear wheelhouse. The body also is designed to route energy into the floor in the case of a rear collision.

Advanced Airbag and Seatbelt Technologies
Accord uses the next-gen Honda front driver and passenger airbags first introduced in the 11th-generation Civic. These new airbags are specifically designed to reduce head rotation in a collision, especially an oblique collision. On the driver’s side, the airbag uses an innovative tuck sewing structure to reduce the tension of the airbag to cradle and hold the head, mitigating rotation and reducing the likelihood of brain injury.

The passenger-side front airbag uses a three-chamber design with the two outer chambers designed to cradle the head and minimize rotation. The three chambers inflate separately, with the two outer chambers that extend above the main chamber designed to cradle the head and help control rotation.

Accord further benefits from additional standard airbag technology. Along with side curtain airbags, side impact airbags and front knee airbags for both driver and front passenger, Accord features standard rear-passenger side impact airbags for the first time.

Seatbelt technology has been updated as well, with outer lap belt pretensioners with load limiters used on front seatbelts to prevent chest injuries. In the rear, Accord now features pretensioners in both outboard positions, along with load limiters and a rear seatbelt reminder, which informs the driver if a rear seat occupant is not properly buckled up.
