Rent Environmentally Friendly Vehicles at LAX

The Honda Civic GX dedicated natural gas vehicle (NGV) has joined Honda's EV PLUS as environmentally friendly vehicles that can be rented from Budget Rent a Car at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). A fleet of five EV PLUS and five Civic GX vehicles are available.

"These clean-fuel vehicles are an excellent choice for environmentally-conscious travelers visiting the Los Angeles area," said Stephen Ellis, natural-gas vehicle sales manager for American Honda. "In addition, the rental program gives consumers an opportunity to try out the EV PLUS and Civic GX and see how well these advanced technologies work."

The first customer to rent a Civic GX was David Rodgers, director of the office of technology utilization, U.S. Department of Energy.

"Now that Civic GXs are available to rent through Budget, I hope it will bring increased awareness among consumers about the cost-effectiveness, environmental benefits and convenience of using NGVs," said Rodgers.

Natural gas is an abundant domestic resource, which helps reduce our dependence on oil imports. Natural gas is typically 25 to 30 percent less expensive than gasoline. Today, more than 2,000 natural gas refueling stations are available to the public across the country, representing a growing fuel infrastructure. In Southern California alone there are currently 125 NGV fueling stations and 230 across the state.

The Civic GX rental program was made possible through a partnership with EV Rental Cars, Budget Rent a Car, Southern California Gas, Pickens Fuel Corp. and American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

The number of electric vehicles and natural gas vehicles available for rent at Budget Rent a Car is expected to increase at the LAX location and throughout the state by the end of the year.
