American Honda Sets New January Sales Records

American Honda January vehicle sales of 86,174 set a new record for the month and were up 11.1 percent from last year's record, according to sales figures released today by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

Contributing to the mark were record January sales for the Honda Accord and Odyssey, Acura TL and another strong month for the MDX luxury sport utility vehicle.

"January turned out to be a pretty good month after all, despite the prediction of all the doomsayers," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. "The industry as a whole may be off a little from last year, but let's not forget that January 2000 was a great month."

Acura Division sales of 12,391 were up 38.4 percent from last year, breaking the previous January record set in 1990. Leading the way, the popular TL sport luxury sedan broke a January sales record with 5,056 units. The MDX sold 3,414 units, and CL sales increased 40.4 percent over last January.

Honda Division sales of 73,783 were up 7.5 percent from last January's record. Accord record sales leaped 34.0 percent, totaling 33,781. Odyssey minivan sales of 8,746 also set a new record.
