Defect / Noncompliance Description

*Describe the defect or noncompliance:
The tire identification number (TIN) is missing the four-digit date code.

*Describe the safety risk:
Missing TIN information can make it difficult for tire owners to identify a tire involved in a recall. Owners may continue to drive on recalled tires, increasing the risk of a crash.

Describe the cause:
Due to buildup between the TIN date code plate and the tire mold cavity, the application of the date code was improperly set. As a result, the date code plate dislodged from the mold during production and some tires were manufactured without the four-digit manufacturing week and year.

If a noncompliance, provide the applicable FMVSS: 139

Identify the Remedy

Describe the defect / noncompliance remedy program, including the manufacturer’s plan for reimbursement:
Registered owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer. The dealer will inspect and, if determined to be defective, replace the tire.

Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense may be eligible for
reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.
