American Honda Posts New Records in August

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. recorded its second best sales month ever in August with total sales of 117,264 cars and light trucks, just 0.4 percent off the previous mark set in August of last year.

Leading the way was the Honda Civic, with its best-ever sales month in its 28-year history, selling 36,533 units - surpassing the previous all-time record set in August 1997. Strong Acura MDX sales and a 6.8 percent increase in Odyssey sales pushed American Honda's total truck sales to a new all-time record of 27,891.

"Consumers tend to place a higher priority on value in uncertain economic times and that is something Honda and Acura products have always been known for," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "This month might have been an all-time record if not for low inventories of the Accord, Odyssey and MDX."

Led by the MDX luxury SUV, TL luxury performance sedan and newly introduced RSX sports coupe, Acura recorded its second best month ever, selling 15,743 units - an increase of 23.7 percent from last year. Acura year-to-date sales of 114,190 vehicles are up 24.0 percent. The Acura 3.2 TL posted record sales of 6,326 this past month, surpassing last August's record by 3.3 percent.

American Honda year-to-date sales of 822,111 are 2.6 percent ahead of last year's record pace.
