American Honda Posts Record-Breaking Sales in June

Bolstered by best-ever June sales for both its Honda and Acura Divisions, and all-time record sales of light trucks, American Honda posted its best-ever June and second best any-month sales results, according to figures released today by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

American Honda June sales rose 7.0 percent over year-ago totals to 112,120. June sales of Honda and Acura light trucks showed a 5.0 percent increase to 26,468 units, a new one-month high for the company. American Honda year-to-date sales of 603,926 rose 4.8 percent over last year.

"A strong, competitive product lineup and an enthusiastic reception to recently launched models are helping keep our sales results in the record books for both Honda and Acura," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of sales for American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

Honda Division sales of 96,659 were up 4.8 percent from last June's record. Posting a new June record of 33,776, Civic bested last year's record by 9.3 percent. The S2000 roadster also set a new June record of 958 units, up 106.0 percent. Continued strong demand for the best-selling Accord also contributed to company's record June performance. Accord sales are up 9.5 percent for the month and 12.2 percent year-to-date.

Acura Division set a new all-time June record with sales of 15,461 vehicles, a 23.0 percent increase over the previous June record set in 1989. Leading the way, the popular TL sport luxury sedan broke a June sales record with 6,616 units, a 10.9 percent increase from last year's record setting month. Acura year-to-date sales are up 25.4 percent over the same period last year. The all-new Acura RSX, the replacement for Integra, went on sale July 2 and will help build on Acura's record-setting pace.
