Drivers piloted the HPD Honda Civic Type R and Civic Si FE1 to podium finishes in TC and TCA in the SRO Touring Car America season at VIRginia International Raceway Saturday and Sunday.
TCX Honda Civic Type R
Dai Yoshihara started fourth on the TCX grid Saturday. He fell to seventh in class shortly after the green flag dropped, then suffered a brief off-track excursion with less than 20 minutes remaining, dropping him to eighth. However, he climbed three positions before the checkers, finishing fifth.
William Tally of LA Honda World Racing made his TCX class debut behind the wheel of the Honda Civic Type R TCX this Saturday. Tally started fifth on Sunday, quickly climbed to fourth and remained there to the finish.
TC Honda Civic Type R
Saturday’s race featured two Hondas on the TC class grid, with Celso Neto starting second and Burton starting sixth in their Civic Type R machines. Neto remained in a podium position throughout the race and finished third despite a brief off-track excursion. Burton also landed in the top five.
On Sunday, Neto started fifth in TC, climbing to third-in-class in the first 5 minutes, then second-in-class shortly after. He maintained his position through the finish, leading him to a double-podium weekend.
Burton also started sixth in TC on Sunday, but again finished in the top five, taking fourth.
TCA Honda Civic Si
On Saturday, the HPD Honda Civic Si FE1 started on the TCA grid with two of the top-three positions: Spencer Bucknum on pole for LA Honda World Racing, and William Lambros close behind in third for Skip Barber Racing School. Shortly after the green flag, however, during the second lap, Bucknum went off-track on Turn 11 and into the tire barrier, knocking him out of the race. Afterward, Lambros defended the podium position and finished third.
Ruben Iglesias of VGRT and Cooper Broll of Skip Barber Racing School also delivered strong performances on Saturday with their HPD Honda Civic Si FE1 machines. Iglesias started sixth and finished fourth, while Broll started seventh and finished fifth, leading a total of three Hondas to finish in the top five positions in TCA.
On Sunday, Spencer Bucknum started sixth in TCA after Saturday’s crash, and quickly climbed to battle among the top three alongside Lambros—who started second—in just five minutes of racing. Bucknum stayed among the top three for the majority of the race and finished second. Lambros faced a mechanical issue, ending his Sunday race before reaching the checkers.

The Honda Civic Type R and Civic Si Touring Car teams will head to Road America in Plymouth, Wisconsin, for Rounds 9 & 10 on August 18 – 20.
