For its inaugural season of IRL IndyCar racing, Fernandez Racing co-owners Adrian Fernandez and Tom Anderson have joined forces with former Formula One driver Aguri Suzuki to create Super Aguri Fernandez Racing. The team will campaign a Honda-powered Dallara for promising IRL rookie Roger Yasukawa.

Established in 2000 by veteran driver Adrian Fernandez and experienced team manager Tom Anderson, Fernandez Racing competed for the past two years in CART, where Fernandez will continue to drive. The CART championship runner-up in 2000, Fernandez has seven career CART victories, including one with Honda power as part of Tasman Motorsports in 1996.

Suzuki, one of Japan's most successful Grand Prix racers, has been assisting young Japanese drivers for the past six years with his Autobacs Racing Team Aguri Project (ARTA). Anderson, with more than 30 years of experience in almost every facet of the sport, will have overall responsibility for the IRL effort.

Yasukawa, 25, was the Barber Dodge Pro Series Rookie of the Year in 1999, and finished fourth in the championship in 2001. Moving up to the Atlantic series last year, he quickly demonstrated his prowess on the ovals, winning in Milwaukee and finishing second at Chicago. He finished 10th in the championship, despite contesting only nine of the 12 rounds.
