Honda scores first Michelin Pilot Challenge TCR podium of 2024 at CTMP

  • Montreal Motorsport Group scores P2 in the Canadian team's home race
  • Dai Yoshihara earns first-career IMSA podium with co-driver Karl Wittmer
  • Sister Honda Civic Type R TCR finishes seventh

It was a good day to be Canadian, as Montreal Motorsport Group scored their first IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge podium finish with their #93 Honda Civic Type R TCR at their home race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Dai Yoshihara started P6 behind the wheel of his Civic, moving up to third in the early stages of the race. It was third where co-driver Karl Wittmer would exit the pitlane after the driver change. He would move up to second following an issue for the #17 of Chris Miller ahead. The Canadian driver would challenge for the lead in the closing stages of the race, ultimately finishing within a second of the race winner.

The sister #6 Honda Civic Type R TCR machine finished seventh on the day, as Canadian duo LP Montour and Jon Brel also took on the challenge of their home track. Brel started 10th aboard his #6 Honda Civic, pitting early to inspect a potential issue on the car. The extended stop dropped the duo down multiple laps. With the race running mainly caution-free, closing driver LP Montour would not have the opportunity to make up during his stage of the race. The pair would cross the line in seventh place.

Quotes
Karl Wittmer (#93 Montreal Motorsports Group Honda Civic Type R) finished 2nd: "It's just a huge bonus to have a well-deserved podium finish at our home track. This crew has been putting in blood, sweat and tears since the beginning of the year, so this is just super rewarding for them. I'm so proud to be part of this squad and to have the support from HRC and JAS Motorsport as well—they've helped all year and all weekend. Dai drove a great first stint. This track isn't easy, and he did a fantastic job. I'm just so happy!"

Dai Yoshihara (#93 Montreal Motorsports Group Honda Civic Type R) finished 2nd: "This is, personally, my first podium in IMSA. It means a lot! And then our team is from Montreal, so getting a good result at this track means more than a lot of the other tracks. I know Karl and the team really wanted to win, but this is still a big step for all of us. Getting on the podium is the best we could get today, and I'm just super happy about this."
