Honda Generators Go Indy Car Racing

Honda is strengthening its involvement with IndyCar racing through an agreement that makes its Honda Power Equipment Division an official supplier to the IndyCar Series, the company announced today. Additionally, Honda has supplied each of its Honda-powered Indy Racing League (IRL) cars with a pair of Honda generators, delivering them technologically advanced, reliable Honda power both on and off the track.

Making their IndyCar Series debut at the April 3 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Honda EU2000i portable inverter generators provide the electrical power for the Indy Racing League's remote on-track timing and scoring equipment that is required for this season's street and road-course events. Ultra-quiet Honda EU3000is and EX4500 generators now provide Honda-powered IndyCar teams with electricity for their pit lane equipment and the newly allowed tire warmers.

"The synergies that exist between Honda's various divisions and the IRL are tremendous," said Honda Power Equipment vice president, Wade Terry. "This is a perfect fit for us right now, and it's rewarding to know that our generators are helping to track our race cars as they cross the finish line."

The Honda EU2000i generators that the IRL now uses deliver 2,000 watts of power and can be linked to provide a total of 4,000 watts. Through the use of inverter technology, Honda has eliminated the need for alternators found on many generators, resulting in a package that is one-third the size and half the weight of conventional units with comparable output. Additionally, inverter technology delivers ultra-clean electrical output with a sine wave equal to, or better than, AC current from a standard household wall outlet. This is critical for sensitive electronics like timing and scoring equipment where power fluctuations could cause the devices to freeze or be interrupted.

The Honda EU3000is generators powering Honda teams up and down pit lane also utilize inverter technology and deliver 3,000 watts of electricity, while the EX4500's used for the tire warmers generate 4,500 watts.

Honda Power Equipment markets a complete line of portable generators from 1,000 to 10,500 watts for a variety of commercial, residential, and recreational applications.
