Honda Power Equipment's revolutionary new HRX™ line of premium residential mowers, pioneering the unique Versamow™ System, will be available with electric start for 2005. Introduced early this year, the HRX has changed the way people mow their lawns by enabling the simultaneous distribution of grass clippings to both the bag and the ground. An electric start model adds more convenience to what is already the most user-friendly 21" lawn mower lineup on the market today.
Debuting with an MSRP of $854, the HRX217HMA with electric start only adds a little more than $50 to the HRX217HXA's suggested retail price. HRX mowers are currently available nationally through Honda Power Equipment dealers and The Home Depot, and the electric start model will be available early in 2005.
"The addition of an electric start model to the HRX line was the next logical step for us," said Rock Reed, manager of Honda Power Equipment product planning and marketing. "Potential HRX customers are looking for the best mower on the market, and we're confident that this will leave them wanting for nothing."
The heart of the new electric start system is advanced new Cyclon sealed lead-acid battery technology. Depending on use, the battery should only require charging twice a year, delivering up to 300 starts on a single charge. The battery is mounted on the handlebar and is integrated with a convenient automotive-style key switch. Electricity is fed to a small starter motor integrated into Honda's renowned GCV190 engine.
The HRX Electric Start becomes the most premium model in the HRX lineup and includes convenience features such as Honda's exclusive Cruise Control Hydrostatic transmission and RotoStop® blade brake clutch.

Truly making the HRX unique in the industry is the revolutionary Honda Versamow System designed to deliver four-in-one flexibility. The Clip Director lever, located behind the engine cowling, operates a sliding door between the deck and the grass bag and allows the operator to easily:
- Mulch 100 percent of clippings;
- Bag 100 percent of clippings;
- Simultaneously mulch and bag in varying degrees through 10 separate settings;
- Rear discharge.
The Versamow System also can be set to optimize leaf shredding by recirculating the leaves until the pieces are small enough to pass through the Versamow opening and into the bag. All this can be accomplished by simply moving the Clip Director lever, enabling an easy switch among bagging, mulching, and leaf shredding modes. Unlike many other mowers, operating the HRX does not require the addition of any extra parts or a labor-intensive conversion processes. Honda's exclusive MicroCut™ offset twin-blade mulching system and advanced under-deck aerodynamic design of the Xenoy® deck collaborate to deliver ultra fine clippings. When in bagging mode, the finer clippings fill the bag more efficiently, meaning the bag does not need to be emptied as often, saving the operator time and effort. When in mulching mode, finer clippings create a more manicured appearance, and also decompose more quickly, returning vital nutrients to the soil.
