2020 Honda Montesa Cota Models Features and Benefits

  • Montesa Cota 301RR
  • Montesa Cota 4RT260 Race Replica
  • Montesa Cota 4RT260

Trials isn't about who's fastest; it's about who's best – an adjective that applies to Repsol Honda's Toni Bou, a 26-time FIM World Champion (13 outdoor and 13 indoor). It's also an apt description for the 2020 Honda Montesa Cota 301RR, which adopts most of its components and technical solutions from the machine Bou rode to his 2019 crowns. Manufactured in the trials hotbed of Barcelona, Spain, the competition-focused 301RR (previously called the 300RR) has a new, larger engine for 2020, making it the most powerful Cota ever mass-produced ever, and new bodywork and graphics give it a look worthy of its performance.

In addition, both iterations of the 4RT260 – the standard version and the high-performance Race Ready edition – receive improvements for 2020, and they continue to be capable trials weapons for riders of varying abilities.

2020 UPDATES

  • The 301RR gets a larger piston for 2020, growing engine displacement 10cc, to 298 (the maximum allowed in the Trial2 World Championship). The result is increased power – up to 16% more at low-end and midrange – while the increased crank inertia delivers better tractability.
  • Joining the 301RR's larger power plant is a new aluminum muffler with a larger-diameter inner tube and greater overall volume, for increased torque across the rev range. A new exhaust shield is incorporated as well.
  • The 301RR has an updated decompression system, with larger crankcase breather tube (2.25 mm instead of 1.9 mm) for reduced engine braking.
  • All three Cotas get new map settings for improved performance.
  • The three Cota models have sharper, more aggressive lines for 2020, delivering a sportier, more modern look via a higher rear fender and redesigned fuel tank.
  • The 301RR has a new dark-gray bodywork color, with graphics that include white and signature Montesa red. Triple clamps and lower fork legs are a striking gold color.
  • A new LED headlight adorns all three models, offering improved visibility on long loops.
  • A new front disc brake guard has improved protection.
  • A new, larger skid plate is fitted to all three Cota models, with a new rubber pad between it and the crankcase, for greater engine protection.
  • New rear rotor for improved braking performance.

IMPORTANT FEATURES

  • The 301RR wears a lightweight 39mm Formula Tech fork with aluminum stanchions. The 4RT260 Race Replica has a Showa fork, while the standard version uses a Formula Tech with steel stanchions.
  • The Pro-Link® rear-suspension system is used on all three models, with a single Showa shock on the 301RR and 4RT260 Race Replica; a R16V shock is fitted to the standard 4RT260.
  • Lightweight aluminum frame and swingarm.
  • Light aluminum wheel hubs minimize unsprung weight.
  • Petal-style rotors front and rear on the 301RR, for optimum braking power and modulation.
  • Programmed electronic fuel injection.
