With considerable input from perennial FIM Trial World Champion Toni Bou, Honda subsidiary Montesa continues to develop the most advanced trials machines on the planet. Designed, developed and produced in the company's Spanish factory – located in the trials hotbed of Barcelona, and with a heritage that extends back even longer than that of Honda – the 4RT260R and 4RT301RR Race Replica are elite machines capable of tackling the most impossible sections imaginable.

MODELS

Montesa Cota 4RT260R
The latest evolution of Montesa's versatile 259 cc platform, this model acquires the "R" suffix for 2022, indicating it to be more competition-ready than its predecessor. Upgrades include the switch to Showa suspension components, as well as the larger aluminum muffler from the 301 platform, which delivers increased horsepower across the rev range. The 4RT260R also gets new graphics and a striking black color.

Montesa Cota 4RT301RR Race Replica
Montesa's most competition-focused model, the 4RT301RR Race Replica is the pinnacle of trials performance. Intended for competition use only, the model even features Bou's Repsol livery.

ENGINE / DRIVETRAIN

  • The 4RT260R has a displacement of 259 cc, delivered via a 78.0 mm bore and a 54.2 mm stroke.
  • With bore and stroke figures of 81.5 mm and 57.2 mm, the 4RT301RR Race Replica has an engine displacement of 298 cc, the maximum allowed in the FIM Trial2 World Championship.
  • Power is biased to the low end and midrange for the smooth, tractable delivery that is vital for maintaining traction in technical conditions, even with the sudden bursts of acceleration common in trials riding.
  • The three-ring piston and specially designed crankshaft reduce vibration.
  • Programmed electronic fuel injection for smooth running in varying conditions.
  • Large, lightweight aluminum muffler, for maximum torque across the rev range.
  • The light-but-tough carbon-fiber guard protects the clutch, on the engine's right side.
  • The decompression system features a large, 2.3 mm crankcase breather tube for reduced engine braking, helping to maintain traction during deceleration.

CHASSIS / SUSPENSION

  • Lightweight 39 mm Showa fork has adjustable compression and rebound damping, as well as adjustable preload. Travel is 6.2 inches.
  • The Pro-Link® rear-suspension system with single Showa shock absorbs trials sections' gnarliest obstacles. Travel is 6.7 inches.
  • Lightweight aluminum frame and swingarm for nimble handling.
  • Aluminum wheel hubs minimize unsprung weight for easy steering and predictable handling.
  • Petal-style Galfer rotors front and rear, for optimum braking power and modulation. A four-piston front caliper offers strong, predictable braking, and it's protected by a plastic guard.
  • A large aluminum skid plate with a rubber cushion protects the engine from the impacts against rocks so common in trials.
  • An aluminum side stand lets the rider easily park the bike when waiting for his or her turn to enter a section.
  • Aluminum fuel tank.
  • Rear fender flares out at the end to better protect the rider from mud and water in transfer sections.
  • Minimalist LED headlight adds illumination in dark conditions (not road legal).
