Honda Riders Fast at Daytona Supercross by Honda

The Honda Red Riders took on round nine of the 2010 Supercross series at the Daytona International Speedway, FL on Saturday, March 6, and Honda Red Bull Racing’s Davi Millsaps and Trey Canard launched solid attacks on the Daytona Supercross by Honda event aboard their Honda CRF450Rs.

Making the podium for the second weekend in a row, and in only his third-ever Supercross race, Trey Canard successfully rose to the challenge of the notoriously difficult Daytona Supercross race. Showing plenty of speed aboard the CRF450R, Canard got a good start and was among the leaders early in the race. On lap five Canard moved into third and claimed that spot for the next 15 laps, finishing third overall. Honda Red Bull Racing’s Davi Millsaps and GEICO Powersports Honda’s Kevin Windham both had their work cut out for them with come-from-behind efforts after getting mid-pack starts. Charging hard in front of his home crowd, Millsaps raced from outside the top ten and was up to fourth place when he fell, allowing Windham to catch up and eventually pass. Windham held on to take fourth with Millsaps fifth.

“It’s awesome to be on the podium two weeks in a row,” said Canard. “I’m very grateful for this opportunity given to me by both Honda Red Bull Racing and GEICO Powersports Honda. I feel like I’m adapting really well to the CRF450R and I think this whole experience is going to really help my confidence when it comes time to get back on my CRF250R and finish out the Supercross Lites West series. I’ve grown a lot as a rider through this whole process.”

In the Supercross Lites East competition, GEICO Powersports Honda racers Justin Barcia and Brett Metcalfe put in solid performances aboard their CRF250Rs but struggled to make up lost ground after getting mid-pack starts. Holding down sixth and seventh spots throughout most of the race, Barcia launched a successful assault on fifth position on the final lap. Metcalfe finished in seventh, followed by fellow Honda riders Darryn Durham in eighth and Kyle Cunningham in ninth.

“I definitely have the speed to be up front and I have shown that at every race this season,” said Barcia. “I just have to put it all together come race day. Mike LaRocco works really hard to help me get accustomed to the whole pro racing scene and I know it’s only a matter of time before I get that win. We are quietly confident it will happen; it’s just a matter of me piecing everything both on and off track together and finding what works for me.”
