2017 Honda VFR1200X Features and Benefits

  • VFR1200X DCT
  • VFR1200X

Honda's largest-displacement adventure-touring model, the VFR1200X has a powerful-but-smooth 1,237cc engine that draws from 30 years of Honda V4 technology. The bike is well suited to customers who don't want to sacrifice comfort during long days (or weeks) of two-wheel exploration, often riding two-up, and is available with either a standard gearbox or Honda's industry-exclusive six-speed, automatic Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).

Engine/Drivetrain

  • Fuel-injected, liquid-cooled four-stroke 1,237cc V4 has rear cylinders closer together than front two, so it's narrow between the rider's legs.
  • Engine has a broad spread of power with a manageable delivery.
  • Available in versions with conventional or third-generation automatic Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).
  • DCT has automatic shifting mode, manual mode and three sport modes; rider can select between fully automatic shifting or manually changing gears via paddle-style buttons.
  • Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) adjusts torque level based on rider preference; rider can choose between three levels of wheel-spin intervention, or turn HSSTC off completely.

Chassis/Suspension

  • Combined anti-lock braking (ABS) provides smooth, confident stopping power.
  • Durable, quiet, low-maintenance shaft drive runs through the single-sided aluminum swingarm housing, making for easy rear-wheel removal.
  • Inverted KYB 43mm fork is adjustable for spring preload and rebound damping, so it can be tuned for conditions or rider preference.
  • KYB shock allows rebound-damping adjustment, and preload can be adjusted via an easily accessible remote dial, allowing adaptation to varying loads (i.e., cargo or passenger).
  • One-hand-adjustable windscreen has three inches of adjustment from high to low, allowing rider to quickly and easily change it for ideal wind protection depending on conditions.
  • Handguards are standard, and heated hand grips are available as an accessory, enabling warm hands in cool conditions.
  • An accessory socket can run a GPS, charge a phone or run other electrical accessories.
  • Spoke design 19 inch front and 17 inch rear wheels are ready to handle rough pavement or dirt/gravel roads.
  • Meets current EPA and CARB standards
  • California version differs slightly due to emissions equipment
