Honda Red Riders Score Big in San Francisco

The Honda Red Riders took on round four of the 2010 Supercross series at AT&T Park in San Francisco, CA on Saturday, January 30 with stellar results. Honda Red Bull Racing riders Davi Millsaps and Andrew Short both put in a strong showing aboard their Honda CRF450R® race machines.

Millsaps recorded his best result of the new Supercross season as he took the checkers in third place. The action-packed 450 race saw Millsaps snare a solid start in the main and he worked hard all race long to catch and then pass Ryan Dungey to score his first podium finish in 2010. Fellow Honda Red Bull rider Short set a blistering pace in winning his heat race, got off to a good start in the main but then stalled while negotiating a turn and dropped a few spots. Short quickly rejoined the fray and battled back to finish in fifth place. GEICO Powersports Honda’s Kevin Windham struggled to recover from his mid-pack start and finished 11th overall.

“I really needed this podium result,” said Millsaps. “I’ve had a rough couple of races the past few weeks and wasn’t finishing where I knew I should be in the results. I want to be on the podium every weekend and all the hard work the Honda Red Bull Racing team and I put in this week, changing things up, really paid off. The podium is my benchmark for where I should be—each weekend—from now on.”

In the Supercross Lites West competition, GEICO Powersports Honda’s Trey Canard dominated the entire field aboard his CRF250R in taking his first race win of the 2010 season. In the main, Canard cranked off a hot start and quickly seized control of the race within the first few turns of the opening lap. He never relinquished control as he maintained his lead position for the entire 15 laps. Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda’s Wil Hahn rode a strong race to nab fourth spot aboard his CRF250R and his teammate Cole Seely finished fifth. GEICO Powersports Honda’s Blake Wharton suffered a setback when he got tangled up with a tuff block on the opening lap and was forced to mount a charge from the back of the pack to eventually finish in 13th place.

“It feels great to win in San Francisco and it’s a huge boost for the GEICO Powersports Honda team to be on top,” said Canard. “The team works so hard to prepare me with an amazing bike each week and I can’t thank them enough. The new CRF250R is an amazing bike and it’s very fast. I’m just glad I was able to give the all-new CRF250R the credit it deserves by racing it to the top spot this weekend.”
