Honda Riders Score Three Podium Finishes in Atlanta

The Honda Red Riders took on round eight of the 2010 Supercross series at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, February 27, and Honda Red Bull Racing’s Davi Millsaps and Trey Canard scored podium finishes aboard their Honda CRF450Rs.

In only his second attempt riding the Supercross class Trey Canard, Honda Red Bull Racing’s fill-in rider, claimed his first-ever Supercross podium in Atlanta by finishing in second place. In doing so, Canard clearly showed the world why Honda Red Bull Racing chose him to ride Andrew Short’s CRF450R while he is sidelined with injuries. The 19-year-old pulled a fine start and quickly moved into the number two spot, which he held for the majority of the race. Teammate Davi Millsaps got a mid-pack start but steadily chipped away at riders to finish third in front of his Atlanta home crowd. GEICO Powersports Honda’s Kevin Windham was also mid-pack off the start and was working his way up the order when he crashed negotiating a tricky rhythm section. Remounting, the veteran racer soldiered on and finished in 14th place.

“To finish in second place and to be on the podium at only my second Supercross race is awesome,” said Canard. “We had a really good week testing my CRF450R race bike and everything just worked perfect come race day. I’m so grateful that I have this opportunity to get a taste of the Supercross competition and I’m incredibly thankful to GEICO Powersports Honda for allowing me to take advantage of this opportunity with Honda Red Bull Racing. I am happy I can represent both Honda teams on the podium.”

In the Supercross Lites East competition, GEICO Powersports Honda racers Brett Metcalfe and Justin Barcia battled in the top five throughout most of the race before Barcia miscalculated a rhythm section while holding down second place. The young Honda racer crashed hard, damaging his front brake, and was forced into the mechanics area to seek repairs before returning to the track to finish in 18th position. After Barcia went down, Metcalfe moved into third place where he finished out the race, scoring his first podium finish of the season.

“I’m really happy to be back on the podium,” said Metcalfe. “After the year I had with injuries in 2009, I’m stoked to have the opportunity to put GEICO Powersports Honda and my CRF250R up on the podium again. It’s been a long road to recovery for me so I really appreciate this result. The key to staying in the championship points race is to be consistent each and every week. That’s my plan of attack this season; to be up front battling for a podium spot every race.”
