2023 Integra: Overview

The 2023 Acura Integra returns one of the brand's most iconic nameplates to the Acura lineup, bringing a premium driving experience and a sleek liftback design to a new generation of enthusiast drivers. A premium sport compact inspired by the fun-to-drive spirit of previous Integras, the all-new Integra is the new performance gateway to the Acura brand delivering class-leading driving dynamics and engaging performance.

The first generation Integra helped launch the Acura brand in 1986 and continued over four-generations, from 1986-2006, offering premium performance and exceptional value. As the first turbocharged Integra from the factory, the new generation adds further momentum to Acura's Precision Crafted Performance brand direction. Along with a high-output 1.5-liter VTEC turbo engine and sport-tuned chassis, Integra is the only car in its segment with an available manual transmission for an even more exhilarating driving experience.

Integra also is the only 5-door liftback in its class, offering a large and flexible cargo area and superior rear seat legroom with a sleek coupe-like profile and sporty stance. With design and packaging inspired by previous Integras, including the original that helped launch the Acura brand in 1986, the 2023 Integra features an all-new design.

Sporty and personal, Integra's distinctive driver-focused interior design creates distinct environments for the driver and passenger. Standard features include a 10.2-inch Acura Precision Cockpit™ digital gauge display, and Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility. A wireless smart phone charger, a head-up display, and a 530-watt 16-speaker ELS STUDIO 3D® premium audio system custom tailored for Integra's unique listening environment are available.

Importantly, Integra also sets a new benchmark for both active and passive safety technology in the premium compact class with Acura's stiff Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, cutting-edge airbag designs and an updated AcuraWatch™ suite of active safety and driver-assistive technologies. Performance Proportions and Design
With design and packaging inspired by previous Integras, including the original that helped launch the Acura brand in 1986, Integra's exterior dimensions follow the timeless adage of long, low, and wide. With a dramatically sloping roofline, the 2023 Integra is a sleek 5-door liftback just like the original Integra, combining a coupe-like profile with a large and easily accessible cargo area.

Thin windshield pillars, door-mounted mirrors and a low cowl offer excellent outward visibility. Integra also cuts a sporty profile with one of the lowest rooflines in its segment for a premium and youthful image, while still offering top-class interior space. Ultimately, Integra's styling yields a wide, purposeful, sporty stance and impressive road presence.

Premium Design Details
Immediately recognizable as a member of the modern Acura family, all of Integra's body panels are unique. Up front, its wide-set headlights flank a new frameless interpretation of Acura's Diamond Pentagon grille design, previously seen on the TLX Type S Concept, and finished in gloss black.

Integra's four-element JewelEye® LED headlights incorporate high and low beams within a simple, slender housing. Accenting the design is the Chicane™ daytime running light, which sweeps under the side reflector and side marker, for the signature Acura look. The Chicane™ design is echoed in Integra's wide single piece LED taillights. Integra also uses a new fine-cut taillight lens that produces an even distribution of light, giving Integra's rear end a premium look.

The front fascia's wide lower opening feeds air to the turbocharger's intercooler. On A-Spec® grades the lower fascia is trimmed in gloss black and flanked by LED fog lights. From the rear, Integra's wider rear track and dual, wide-set exhaust finishers emphasize the swell of its rear wheel arches. Harkening back to the iconic 3rd generation model, Integra is once again embossed in the front and rear fascias.

Standard chrome side window trim is replaced with matte black on A-Spec® grades, with the low windowsill contributing to an expansive greenhouse for excellent outward visibility. Exterior sculpting details include scalloped lower door sections, and a character line that begins at the front fascia and travels upward to underscore the rearmost quarter window.

Wind-Cheating Aerodynamics
Integra's aerodynamic performance has been optimized for minimal lift and drag, while also minimizing wind noise. A new upper grille mesh streamlines airflow into the engine compartment, and fascia inlets form air curtains around the front wheels, smoothing the air flow. Strakes in front of the front and rear wheels also help guide air around the tires, reducing Integra's side wake.

Hidden under the front fascia is a chin spoiler that reduces airflow under the body, and underneath are panels directing the air that does flow under the car. The extended rear lower fascia and the upturned trailing edge of the tailgate reduce rear lift, a benefit increased by 50% with a rear spoiler on Integra A-Spec®.

Two Wheel Designs
Standard 10-spoke, 17-inch alloy wheel with a machined face wears 215/50R17 all-season performance tires. Integra A-Spec® features 18-inch alloy wheels finished in Shark Gray. The split five-spoke design is wrapped in 235/40R18 all-season performance tires. A variety of 19-inch wheel designs also are available through Acura Genuine Accessories.

A-Spec®
In addition to 18-inch wheels and tires, Integra A-Spec® features unique, eye-catching trim. The lower front grille is finished in gloss black, and fog lights are standard. The surround on the side windows is matte black, and A-Spec® badges adorn the front fenders. In the rear is another
A-Spec® badge, as well as gloss black on the diffuser. A-Spec® Integras also come standard with a gloss black rear spoiler, which helps reduce rear-end lift at higher speeds an additional 50%.

Exterior Colors
Integra is available in six distinct colors, including Performance Red Pearl, Apex Blue Pearl, Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Liquid Carbon Metallic and Majestic Black Pearl.

2023 Integra: Powertrain

Key Powertrain Features

  • First-ever factory turbocharged Integra
  • 1.5-liter VTEC® turbocharged 4-cylinder engine makes 200 hp (SAE net @ 6,000 rpm)
  • 192 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net) delivered across a broad range of operation
  • The only available 6-speed manual transmission in segment delivers crisp gear changes for a more engaging driving experience
  • Standard continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) specially tuned for quick response, with paddle shifters for optimum driver control
  • Step Shift CVT programming simulates gear changes under full-throttle acceleration for a linear feel

1.5-liter Turbo Engine
The 2023 Integra is the first-ever factory turbocharged Integra. Under its aluminum hood is a VTEC®-enhanced DOHC 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 200 horsepower and 192 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net). Peak torque occurs from 1800-5000 rpm, providing a quick punch off the line and out of tight corners. At the top of the tach, the engine maintains high output between its 200-hp SAE net power peak at 6000 rpm. The engine's 133.3 hp per liter is the highest specific output in its competitive segment.

The high output small displacement engine features a high-efficiency turbocharger, optimized turbo piping, Variable Timing Control (VTC) on both cams, Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC®) on the exhaust valves and a 4-2 exhaust port/manifold cast into the cylinder head. A rigid crankshaft and oil pan minimize unpleasant vibrations in the 300-600 Hz range. More details on the 1.5-liter turbo are available here.

A coil-type exhaust system adds an emotional exhaust sound that further enhances Integra's engaging driving experience. This high-flow exhaust system helps Integra maximize horsepower and provides a satisfying growl under acceleration that doesn't intrude at lighter throttle applications.

Segment-Exclusive 6-Speed Manual Transmission
Unique in its segment, Integra is available with a close-ratio, short throw 6-speed manual transmission with automatic rev matching. With a 430 m/s response time (Sport Mode), the Rev Match system "blips" the throttle when it detects a downshift, quickly and perfectly matching revs every time. And for those who prefer to do it themselves, the feature can be turned off.

For an even sportier feel, manual transmission-equipped Integras have an even snappier engine response thanks to an even more aggressive throttle map and a lightweight single-mass flywheel. To maximize available traction when accelerating, the 6-speed routes power to Integra's front wheels through a helical limited-slip differential.

Integra's manual transmission features a rigid aluminum exterior case, high-capacity ball bearings, stiff gear shafts, and high torque capacity. A constant-mesh helical reverse gear mechanism significantly reduces noise when reverse is selected.

Sport-Tuned Continuously Variable Transmission
For drivers who prefer to let the car do the shifting, Integra's standard continuously variable transmission (CVT) is tuned for driving enjoyment. With a short final-drive ratio, the CVT provides excellent response, especially when accelerating from a stop.

Under acceleration, Integra's CVT activates the Step-Shift function. The CVT is programmed to control engine speeds in "steps," similar to a traditional automatic transmission, giving drivers a familiar linear audible cue for a better sense of acceleration. Drivers also can manually select gear ratios with the standard paddle shifters located on the steering wheel.

Automatic downshift control adds engine braking when going downhill and improves engine response during spirited driving. When the driver presses the brake pedal the CVT selects an appropriate lower ratio, maintaining a higher engine speed. This creates stronger engine braking and improves engine response when acceleration resumes. The higher engine speed continues until the driver resumes a cruise or neutral throttle condition.

Integra's G-Design CVT reduces the "rpm-led" feel of some CVTs, when the acceleration feel comes after the increase in engine speed. G-Design reduces this "rubber band effect" in the new Integra with increased engine torque and improved turbocharger response. The result is stronger acceleration at lower engine speeds, giving the engine more natural-feeling acceleration that follows the driver's foot.

Suspension Tuned for Drivers
Integra's sport-tuned independent suspension, precise steering and powerful brakes deliver class-leading driving dynamics and engaging performance, along with a comfortable ride. Its 107.7-inch wheelbase is longer than its European competitors, contributing to a smooth and stable ride. Its wide stance, with staggered front 60.5-inch and rear 61.6-inch tracks, adds stability.

A MacPherson strut front suspension is attached to an aluminum front subframe with an efficient truss and rib structure for rigidity and stability. A 27.0 mm hollow front stabilizer bar contributes to Integra's flat cornering characteristics.

Exceptional care was taken to reduce friction in the suspension and steering system to improve handling and ride comfort, reducing harsh impact shock and noise. A tempering process that heat-treats the lower ball joints on the front suspension reduces the surface pressure between the ball and resin ball seat. The front damper mount also uses a low-friction seat and optimizes the axis of the spring and damper.

Mounted on a rigid subframe, the multi-link rear suspension provides stable, yet agile handling. A standard solid 17.5 mm, or 18 mm (A-Spec grades) stabilizer bar also contributes. Harshness is minimized by a large rear compliance bushing with more damping force on the front end of the trailing arm. The bushings on the back side of the lower rear suspension arms increase ride comfort, while promoting better straight-line stability and turn in.

Adaptive Damper System
An available Adaptive Damper System (ADS), controlled through the standard Integrated Dynamics System (IDS), provides even more precise control of Integra's ride and handling with distinct damping characteristics in Comfort, Normal and Sport driving modes. See below for more information on the Integrated Dynamics System.

Variable-Ratio Electric Power Steering
Integra's dual-pinion electronic power steering (EPS) provides excellent feedback, and its low-friction characteristics aid straight-line stability and intuitive response. The system provides substantially improved feel compared to a single-pinion system by using the physical steering input from the driver as well as from a supplemental electric motor. A non-contact torque sensor measures the driver's steering effort, and an ECU determines how much electric motor assist to add, with the result being seamless, natural feeling steering.

Integra's EPS system also features variable gear ratio for comfortable responses near center and quicker, sportier feel with increasing steering angle, yielding intuitive response at all speeds for a sporty and confident character.

Powerful Brakes
Integra features large 12.3-inch diameter ventilated front brake rotors and 11.1-inch diameter solid rotors in the rear, incorporating Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist as standard equipment. The system provides a comfortable and refined feel at low speeds, with predictable and easy operation. Yet, powerful, reassuring brake performance is ready when the driving gets serious

Integrated Dynamics System
Every Integra comes standard with Acura's Integrated Dynamics System (IDS), which gives the driver the option of distinct driving modes tuned for specific driving situations. IDS features Comfort, Normal and Sport modes, which control various parameters including steering assist, transmission and throttle response, Idle Stop, and gauge color.

On Integra A-Spec® with the Technology Package, the Integrated Dynamics System also adjusts the Adaptive Damper System (ADS), adds Active Sound Control (ASC) and a user-programmable Individual mode.

Comfort Mode
Comfort mode programs the CVT and EPS for a more relaxed feel. The meter illumination is blue. On A-Spec® with Technology Package, ADS is on its softest setting, and ASC is set to its quietest mode.

Individual Mode
Exclusively on Integra A-Spec® with Technology Package, Individual mode allows drivers to mix and match between the settings to customize the driving experience with independent selection of steering feel, engine response, suspension damper performance, and gauge color at the touch of a button.

2023 Integra: Body

Key Body Features

  • Enhanced global architecture
  • Exceptionally rigid body key to Integra's superior handling, ride quality and crash performance
  • Extensive structural adhesive used throughout construction adds strength
  • Aluminum hood and front bumper beam save weight, and extensive use of high-strength steel increases strength

High-Rigidity Body Structure
Fundamental to Integra's outstanding ride quality, handling and crash performance is its enhanced global architecture and exceptionally rigid body structure.

More than one-third of Integra's body construction consists of aluminum, resin, with hot stamp and high-strength steel used strategically to increase strength. To minimize weight gain, the hood is aluminum, along with the front bumper beam, which features a new cross section that improves strength while minimizing the overall amount of material required.

Extensive use of structural adhesive is used throughout the body structure to add strength while minimizing weight gain. The adhesive is applied where spot welds are performed, combining the strength of the weld and the broader surface area of the adhesive to increase the stiffness of the joint. This reduces the need for additional sheet metal thickness or welded-on reinforcements.

Hot stamp steel is used on the door and windshield frames, with high-strength steel used in the door sills and body cross members. Not only does the application of these materials increase rigidity for improved handling and a quiet ride, it also improves crash safety performance with Integra's Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE®) body structure (see Safety and Driver Assistive section below).

Integra's floor strength is enhanced via lattice frame members and by joining the front and rear ends of the center tunnel to the dashboard lower and rear crossmember. Circular frames are used around the engine compartment strut towers and behind the rear seats; the resulting stiffness helps achieve a better balance of front-rear rigidity, which helps improve steering feel and precision.

Body Stabilizing Front Seats
All Integras feature an advanced Body Stabilizing front seat design that uses multiple internal structures to provide improved support across the entire body, enhancing comfort on long drives. This includes a special mat below the cushion that supports the area from the pelvis to the lumbar spine for a more stable and solid seating feel.

An inner frame on the seat bottom stabilizes the hip to reduce movement and posture changes regardless of the various G forces experienced while driving. The curve of the seat bottom leaves no gap between the seat and thighs to prevent sliding forward, which couples with the internal structure to reduce forward and lateral pelvic tilt that can lead to fatigue and discomfort on long drives. The seat also centers the upper body over the pelvis, helping to stabilize the upper arms and the driver's eyesight, making it easier to drive.

Large and Flexible Cargo Space
Integra's class-exclusive five-door body gives it a distinct edge in cargo capacity compared to its rivals. The 24.3 cu.-ft. of cargo space behind the rear seatbacks and its broad flat floor easily accommodate two 29-inch suitcases. To support active lifestyles, and carry larger gear like a mountain bike, Integra's rear seatbacks fold flat to greatly expand the available space.

  • Integra sets a new benchmark for both active and passive safety technology in the premium compact class
  • Enhanced Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure optimized for oblique collisions
  • New driver and front passenger airbags designed to help control head rotation in a crash
  • Standard knee airbags and rear seat outboard side impact airbags
  • Embossed hood structure improves pedestrian protection
  • All-new standard wide-view, single-camera AcuraWatch™ system includes Traffic Jam Assist (when equipped with CVT), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)
  • Natural-feeling Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
  • Standard blind spot information (BSI)
  • Available Parking sensors with front and rear Low Speed Braking Control

Advanced Compatibility Engineering ™ (ACE™) Body Structure
Integra sets a new benchmark for both active and passive safety technology in the premium compact class. Integra uses the latest version of Acura's Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, which has been designed to meet the future NHTSA oblique crash test standard, in addition to achieving top-level scores in current NHTSA and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests.

The latest version of Acura's ACE™ body structure is designed to protect vehicle occupants and improve crash compatibility between vehicles of varying sizes, such as an SUV and a small car, and occupant protection in angled frontal collisions. The front of the structure features a special upper member, windshield pillar, side frame and lower firewall structure designed to route crash energy around the cabin, especially in oblique impacts.

Advanced Airbag and Seatbelt Technologies
In a segment first, Integra uses new driver and front passenger airbags specifically designed to reduce head rotation in a collision, especially an oblique collision. The driver's airbag uses an innovative donut-shaped structure to cradle and hold the head, mitigating rotation and reducing the likelihood of brain injury.

On the passenger side, Integra uses technology functionally similar to that pioneered on the 2021 Acura TLX, as well as the fourth-generation MDX. A three-chamber airbag design achieves a similar result. The three chambers inflate separately, with the two outer chambers that extend above the main chamber designed to cradle the head and control rotation.

Integra further benefits from standard driver and front passenger knee airbags and rear outboard side impact airbags. Along with side curtain airbags and side impact airbags for both driver and front passenger, Integra features a total of 10 airbags.

Seatbelt technology includes outer lap belt pretensioners and load limiters on front seatbelts, with a selectable load limiter used on the driver's side, designed to help prevent chest injuries. In the rear, pretensioners are used in both outboard positions, along with load limiters. Integra also features a rear seatbelt reminder, which informs the driver if a rear seat occupant is not properly buckled up.

Pedestrian Protection
Integra also features multiple technologies designed to prevent and mitigate pedestrian injuries through both collision mitigation and collision avoidance. The standard AcuraWatch™ suite of driver assistive and safety technologies has been engineered to detect pedestrians, warning the driver, or even applying the brakes to help prevent a collision.

Should a collision occur, Integra features an embossed hood frame structure under the panel's lightweight aluminum skin. This structure can transmit the impact of a pedestrian's head across a wider area, helping to reduce the severity of an injury, while allowing a smaller clearance between the hood and the engine. Additionally, the front bumper has been redesigned to prevent or reduce lower leg fractures, and ligament injuries to the knee, in frontal impacts

Improved AcuraWatch™
Integra's standard AcuraWatch™ suite uses a new single camera mounted behind the windshield, coupled with an exceptionally fast processor, rather than separate millimeter-wave radar and camera systems.

This new single-camera system features a 100-degree field of view capable of detecting feature points of a target and recognizing attributes such as a vehicles or pedestrians. With the use of the fast processor, the system measures distance and the lateral position of objects based on the change in the size of the target object, how long it took for the change to occur, and speed of the vehicle. This enables the camera to recognize white lines, road boundaries such as curbs, other vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists and road signs.

In foul weather, the system parameters allow operation even when the windshield wipers are operating at mid or high speeds, as long as the camera can detect objects. In addition, a heater prevents fogging of the windshield in front of the camera in cold weather. The system software also has been programmed to continue providing assistance, even in foggy weather.

AcuraWatch™ functions include:

  • Traffic Jam Assist (TJA) for CVT-equipped trims: works in conjunction with ACC and LKAS to provide lane-keeping functions at speeds below 45 mph all the way to a standstill, such as in congested traffic.
  • Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR): new camera automatically recognizes traffic speed limit signs, displaying the information on the digital meter immediately after the sign is passed.
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™): new camera system and more advanced software enables the use of CMBS™ in more situations. If no corrective action is taken when FCW signals an alert, CMBS can apply different levels of autonomous braking action to help reduce vehicle speed and eventual collision forces, and therefore to help reduce the severity of a collision.
  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW, integrated with CMBS™): when the system determines a collision is possible with a detected vehicle, visual and audible alerts from the FCW system prompt the driver to take corrective actions.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow (ACC with LSF): new camera system improves Adaptive Cruise Control with more natural brake feel and quicker reactions to changes in traffic. It also responds more quickly when changing into an open lane from behind a slower car, and when a slower car moves out of the lane ahead. (Low-Speed Follow available only with CVT).
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS): LKAS reduces the need for steering correction movements and driving effort. Thanks to the new camera system, LKAS is more linear and natural feeling than ever before, with natural feeling steering assist, better line tracing in corners and improved resistance to crosswinds.
  • Road Departure Mitigation (RDM): identifies solid or dashed painted lane lines, Botts' dots and cat's-eye markers to find the edge of the road and uses steering force to keep the vehicle from departing the lane or roadway altogether.
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW) integrated with RDM: operates at speeds from 40 to 90 mph and is designed to alert the driver if the vehicle is leaving a detected lane without the turn signal being activated.

Additional Driver Assistive Technologies
Additional driver assistive technologies include a standard blind spot information (BSI) system. Using radar installed on the rear corners of the vehicle to detect vehicles approaching from the rear, BSI signals the driver with a visual and audible warning. The BSI range extends to approximately 80 feet behind Integra to provide advanced warning in certain conditions.  For instance, if a vehicle approaches from diagonally behind, and at a significantly different relative speed considered by the system to be a potential risk of contact, it will alert the driver when it comes into range.

Included with A-Spec® with Technology Package are four sonar sensors installed on the front of the vehicle, and four on the back that significantly improve the detection of non-metallic objects that could be missed by the millimeter wave radar, such as glass and external exterior walls. This enables the implementation of Low-Speed Braking Control to reduce the likelihood of low-speed collisions, such as in parking situations. When equipped with a CVT, this also includes front and rear false-start prevention.

2023 Integra: Manufacturing

Production of the 2023 Integra will mark the first time Integra is built in America, to begin soon in Marysville, Ohio, on the same production line as the Acura TLX*.  Integra's engine is made exclusively at the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio, which also produces the turbo V6 that powers TLX Type S, MDX Type S, and the 600-horsepower twin-turbo V6 of the NSX Type S supercar.

* Using domestic and globally-sourced parts
