American Honda Posts New All-Time Record October Sales

American Honda, along with both the Honda and Acura sales divisions, posted new all-time October sales records, putting the company on track for its twelfth consecutive year of record sales. October sales highlights include:

  • Record October sales for American Honda
  • Record October and fourth best-ever sales of American Honda light trucks
  • Record October sales of Honda passenger cars and light trucks
  • Record October and 12th consecutive record month for Acura Division
  • All-time best-ever sales month for Honda Pilot
  • Record October sales of Honda CR-V
  • Record October sales of Acura TL, TSX and MDX

American Honda total October sales rose 10.2 percent to 110,502 units, topping the previous October record of 105,572 units set in 2001. Strong initial demand for the two just launched new models, the Odyssey minivan and Acura RL luxury performance sedan, helped boost October results. American Honda year-to-date sales are also on a record-setting pace, up 0.5 percent versus a year ago to 1,161,493 Honda and Acura cars and light trucks.

American Honda also posted record October and fourth best-ever sales of light truck models. October sales of 49,193 Honda and Acura light trucks topped last year's totals by 17.3 percent, powered by record October sales of CR-V and Acura MDX sport-utility vehicles, along with best-ever sales of the Honda Pilot. All three models received significant updates for the 2005 model year. American Honda light truck sales for the year are up 0.7 percent to 451,371. American Honda passenger car sales also saw an increase of 5.1 percent to 61,309 in October on the strength of Civic, RSX, TL, TSX and all-new RL. Year-to-date car sales of American Honda passenger cars are up 0.3 percent to 710,122.

Honda Division

Honda Division October sales rose 9.6 percent to a new October record of 93,761 units, with record October results for CR-V and best-ever sales of Pilot, along with a 13.8 percent jump in sales of Civic. The all-new Odyssey minivan got off to a strong start with sales up 15.0 percent to 12,603 units in October, its first full month on the market. Sales of Honda hybrid vehicles, the Insight and Civic Hybrid, rose 43 percent to a new October record of 2,277 units, while year-to-date hybrid sales totaled 22,176 vehicles, up 12 percent from last year. Honda Division light truck sales also rose to a new October record of 43,960 units, up 18.8 percent from last year.

Acura Division

Acura Division posted its twelfth consecutive record-breaking month with sales of 16,741 luxury cars and light trucks, up 13.6 percent over last year and topping the previous October record of 14,965 set in 2001. The TL performance luxury sedan posted record October sales of 6,717 units, up 11.4 percent over last year. Year-to-date TL rose to 64,845, exceeding last year's results by 42.6 percent.

The TSX sports sedan set a new October sales record, up 6.4 percent compared to 2003, with sales of 1,870 units. Year-to-date TSX sales are up 69.4 percent. The MDX luxury SUV also set a new October sales record and recorded its third best sales month ever of 5,233 units, surpassing the previous mark of 4,936 set in 2003. Year-to-date sales increased to 48,143 units, up 3.0 percent compared to last year.
