Honda's new 2000 VFR800FI Interceptor motorcycle is the first production motorcycle to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) 2008 emission standards.
This new, cleaner model is also more powerful than its predecessor, making six more horsepower, increasing it to 108 bhp. The Interceptor uses a closed-loop, three-way catalyzer system with oxygen sensors to cut emissions of carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide significantly when compared to the 1999 model.
"We are very proud to be the first to reach the strict CARB emission standards early," said John Petas, senior vice president of American Honda motorcycle division. "We have been working hard to make our motorcycles clean and fuel efficient, it's satisfying to know our efforts have paid off well before we were required to do so."
In addition, the all-new Honda CBR929RR in California-model trim, meets the 2004 tier-one CARB standards. It will be available at California Honda dealers in March.
