They are designed to go 100,000 miles before their first scheduled tune-up, thanks in large part to advances in engine technology.
During the first 100,000 miles, Acura's 3.5RL, 3.2TL and 3.0CL require only routine inspections and fluid changes.
This is due to engineering breakthroughs in three key areas:
Timing - Belt - Advanced timing belt materials and auto-tensioning mechanisms compensate for any belt wear on the toothed cam-drive belt and serpentine accessory drive belt;
Valve Train - The hydraulic valve adjusters of the 3.5RL and 3.2TL never need adjustment, while the roller-follower design of the valve gear in the 3.0CL cuts friction and wear to the point that the screw-type tappet clearance adjusters need not be checked until the 100,000-mile mark;
Spark Plugs - Long-wearing platinum-tipped spark plugs are scheduled for replacement at 105,000 miles.
