Acura To Return As Title Sponsor of the Acura Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance

Luxury automaker, Acura, announced today its return as the title sponsor of the Acura Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance. Proceeds from the classic car extravaganza, to be held September 22nd at the picturesque Ocean Trails Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, go to fund the charitable programs of the Palos Verdes Art Center and Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Foundation. This is Acura's second year of sponsorship in the annual charity event.

"We are delighted to be back as title sponsor of the Acura Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance," said Charles Koch, Acura regional marketing manager. "The combination of supporting our local charities while at the same time helping to preserve the finest in design and technology in classic automobiles and motorcycles is a perfect fit for Acura."

For the 10th anniversary Concours, a racing theme has been chosen with racing legend Parnelli Jones serving as Grand Marshal. One hundred and seventy-five cars are scheduled to compete in 20 classes including: Racing and Competition Cars Pre-1939 and 1939 to 1976; Italian Sports Cars; American Classics and Rolls Royce/Bentley, among others. For the first time, motorcycles will compete in the Concours with two classes of Racing Motorcycles Pre-1939 and 1939 to 1976.

The Acura Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance weekend kicks off on Friday with an invitational golf tournament at Ocean Trails' Pete Dye-designed course. On Saturday, nearby Oceanfront estates will serve as the starting line for the Concours Road Rally. Now in its second year as part of the Concours festivities, approximately 100 autos ranging from Ferarris to classic '57 Thunderbirds to traditional family cars will leisurely wind their way through the Palos Verdes Peninsula to the finish line at a private estate in Rolling Hills. The weekend culminates in the Concours competition and awards ceremony on Sunday.

About the Beneficiaries

Rotary Club of the Palos Verdes Peninsula: Since its establishment in 1962, the Rotary Club of the Palos Verdes Peninsula has been an active part of the South Bay community. Through its Rotary Foundation, the Rotary Club's members have provided countless hours of volunteer work and funding for programs throughout the area. As one of the Rotary Club's major fundraisers, proceeds from the Acura Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance have been used to provide support for programs such as Habitat for Humanity, Hospice Trinity Kids Care, the Boys and Girls Club of San Pedro, and more.

The Palos Verdes Art Center: Founded in 1931, the Palos Verdes Art Center works to inspire individuals of all ages to discover ways to celebrate, appreciate and create art. Among the programs the Concours helps to fund is "Art At Your Fingertips" which sends volunteers into schools on the Palos Verdes Peninsula to teach art projects to kindergarten through fifth graders. Also benefiting from the funds raised at the annual Concours, the Center's "Art for Educators" program instructs area teachers how to integrate visual art education into the regular curriculum of math, science and language arts.
