Statement by American Honda Regarding Certification Label Noncompliance Recall: 2018 Honda Civic

  • 13 vehicles will be recalled in the United States to replace the certification labels affixed to the doorjamb
  • Certification labels were printed without each vehicle's specific manufacturing date

American Honda will voluntarily recall 13 Honda Civic vehicles from the 2018 model year in the United States to replace the certification label affixed to the driver's doorjamb, free of charge. The software programming for a replacement certification label printer had incorrect settings, which resulted in labels printed with random characters instead of the vehicles' manufacturing dates. The incorrectly printed labels do not comply with federal requirements (49 CFR, Part 567.4).

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage each owner of an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Honda is attempting to contact each owner by phone to schedule the required repair, and at the time of this announcement, only four vehicles remain unrepaired.

Mailed notification to owners of any remaining unrepaired vehicles will begin in early- August 2018. Owners of these vehicles can also determine if their vehicles are affected by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
