American Honda Sets New July Sales Record

Total American Honda sales set a new July sales record of 112,542, up 7.1 percent, the company's second best month ever, according to figures released today by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

Light truck sales of 33,896 led the way, increasing 44.8 percent compared to the same period last year and a new record for the month. Honda CR-V sales, up 55.3 percent to 14,596 set a new all-time record. The Acura MDX luxury SUV posted a sales increase of 50.5 percent at 3,769 vehicles. Honda Odyssey sales of 9,991were up 4.5 percent. The new Honda Pilot SUV, added 5,361 vehicles to the total.

"After the past couple of months, consumers may feel that hard goods are a better investment right now than the stock market," said Dick Colliver, American Honda executive vice president. "Sales would have been even stronger except dealers had low inventories of the Acura MDX, Honda Pilot and Odyssey."

Passenger car sales were led by the Accord, increasing 16.2 percent to 41,152 vehicles. Sales of the Acura RSX up 26.6 percent to 3,044 set a July record. Acura 3.2 TL sales of 5,430 also finished ahead of the previous record of 5,183 set in July 2001.

Total year-to-date sales of 707,245 are up 0.3 percent. Year-to-date total truck sales of 223,222 are up 29.8 percent.
