Statement by American Honda Regarding Fuel Pump Recall: 2016-2018 Acura MDX, 2015-2019 Acura TLX V6 and 2015-2017 Honda Accord V6

  • Approximately 437,000 vehicles affected in the United States
  • Control software will be updated, and, if needed, the fuel pump will be replaced, free of charge
  • No related crashes or injuries have been reported

American Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 437,000 model-year 2016-2018 Acura MDX, 2015-2019 Acura TLX V6 and 2015-2017 Honda Accord V6 vehicles in the United States to update control software for the fuel pump and, if needed, replace the fuel pump, free of charge.

Sodium particulates contained in some gasoline sold in the United States can adhere to certain internal components in the fuel pump, increasing electrical and mechanical resistance and reducing fuel pump performance under original control software programming. If a vehicle is operated in high ambient temperatures, reduced fuel pump performance can restrict vehicle acceleration and/or cause an engine stall, which may increase the risk of a crash. American Honda has received no reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue.

American Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected Acura and Honda vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer for repair as soon as they receive notification. Mailed notification is planned in late-March 2019. Owners of potentially affected vehicles can also determine if their vehicles require repair by visiting www.recalls.acura.com or www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
