Statement by American Honda Regarding Incorrect Owner’s Guide Recall: 2017-2018 Honda Civic Hatchback and Civic Type R

  • 7,016 vehicles will be recalled in the United States to replace the vehicle owner's guides, for free
  • No owner's guides or incorrect guides were potentially placed in vehicles at the factory

American Honda will voluntarily recall 7,016 Honda Civic Hatchback and Civic Type R vehicles from the 2017-2018 model years in the United States to replace the vehicle owner's guide, for free. A process error at the factory may have led to the installation of incorrect owner's guides or no owner's guides being installed. An incorrect or missing owner's guide may result in noncompliance with certain federal regulations requiring written information, which may increase the risk of crash or injury. Honda has received no reports of crashes or injuries related to incorrect or missing owner's guide information in these vehicles.

At the time of this announcement, replacement owner's guides are not yet available for all affected vehicles. Honda is announcing this recall to encourage each owner of an affected vehicle to schedule a repair appointment at an authorized dealer as soon as they receive mailed notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to vehicle owners will begin in mid-January 2019. Owners of these vehicles can also determine if their vehicles are affected by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138. Correct owner's guide information for all current Honda vehicles is also available for free online at owners.honda.com.
