Statement by American Honda Regarding Center Pillar Garnish Attachment Recall: 2019 Honda Pilot and Ridgeline

  • 403 vehicles are affected in the United States
  • Right center pillar garnishes, which may interfere with side curtain airbag deployment, will be secured, for free
  • No reports of related injuries

American Honda will voluntarily recall 403 Honda Pilot and Ridgeline vehicles from the 2019 model year in the United States to secure the right center pillar garnish, for free.

Affected vehicles may have larger than specified mounting holes for the clip that secures the right center pillar (B-pillar) garnish, an interior cover just behind the passenger-side front door. In the event of a crash necessitating right side curtain airbag deployment, the clip may not hold the center pillar garnish in position and may potentially interfere with side curtain airbag deployment. This interference may not comply with certain federal requirements and may increase the risk of occupant injury. Honda has received no reports of injuries related to this condition.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage each owner of an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will begin in mid-January 2019. Owners of these models can also determine if their specific vehicles are included in the recall by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
