Acura celebrated its 15th anniversary in March by posting the best sales figures in the division's history. Acura reported March sales of 15,982 vehicles, breaking the previous all-time sales record of 14,871 set in August 1989, and up 31.7 percent compared to last March.
Consecutive record-breaking months in 2001 also allowed Acura to post a first quarter record of 42,050 sales, a 36.2 percent increase over the same period a year ago. "We couldn't have asked for a better anniversary present," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of sales. "If the auto market is slowing, it doesn't show at Acura."
Sales of the all-new MDX luxury sport utility vehicle continued to skyrocket in March, posting 4,358 units. March also saw the arrival of the first of the 2002 model year Acura lineup as the flagship 3.5 RL luxury sedan and 3.2 TL and TL Type-S luxury performance sedans made their debuts in showrooms nationwide. The TL, already the best-selling luxury sedan in the country, set an all-time record with 6,922 vehicles sold in March, a 13.0 percent increase over the previous record set in March 2000.
