Statement by American Honda Regarding Owner’s Guide Recall: 2019 Honda CR-V

  • Approximately 348,000 vehicles are affected in the United States
  • For Free: A new adhesive owner’s guide insert will be sent by mail to owners; no visit to a dealer required
  • Incorrect information in owner’s guides does not comply with federal regulations and may cause confusion for vehicle owners

American Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 348,000 model-year 2019 Honda CR-V vehicles in the United States to update a page in their owner’s guides, for free.

The owner’s guide page describing the function of the “Passenger Airbag Off” indicator mistakenly notes that the indicator will not illuminate if the front passenger seat is empty, while the indicator actually will illuminate in that circumstance. Having this incorrect information in the owner’s guide does not conform to federal regulation (FMVSS/TSD (CMVSS) 208 S4.5.1(f)(2)(iv)). Owners of affected vehicles will receive a new adhesive owner’s guide insert by mail, including instructions on how to apply the sticker. The updated owner’s guide insert provides correct information to avoid potential owner confusion.

Honda encourages each owner of an affected vehicle to apply the updated owner’s guide insert sticker to their vehicle’s guide as soon as they receive it by mail from Honda. Mailed notification to owners, including the updated insert, will begin in mid-November 2019. Owners of these models can also determine if their specific vehicles are included in the recall by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
