Acura's 2000 Model Line: Premium Performance Vehicles That Fuel a Passion for Driving

For 2000, Acura's full line of premium performance vehicles have been painstakingly refined to offer greater driving pleasure with an uncompromising ownership experience.

"Acura represents premium performance," says Dick Colliver, executive vice president, Acura division. "No other manufacturer can claim such a diverse range of products that offer the high level of technological, safety and performance content as the 2000 Acura line."

NSX - Leading the Acura brand is the NSX, the high performance supercar that revolutionized the exotic car segment ten years ago continues to set the industry standard in performance and driveability. For 2000, the NSX offers numerous enhancements including an improved manual transmission and the addition of a perforated leather interior.

3.5RL - Acura's flagship sedan enters the new millennium as a technological showcase in the areas of automotive safety, innovation and luxury. All-new features for the 2000 model year include Acura's Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system and significant improvements to the Acura Navigation System.

The new Acura VSA system enhances driver control by adding lateral control to the RL's standard Traction Control System (TCS) and Antilock Braking System (ABS). VSA assists in maintaining control of the vehicle during cornering, acceleration and sudden collision-avoidance maneuvers by managing the braking and throttle systems. Other safety innovations on the RL include Acura's exclusive advanced side air bag system and a dual-stage, front passenger supplemental restraint system (SRS) air bag.

For 2000, Acura is the first in the industry to offer a new Digital Video Disc (DVD) mapping database, providing coverage of the continental United States on one DVD disc. The Acura Navigation System on the RL now includes a larger, color LCD display with a new matte-finish touch screen that reduces glare and fingerprinting.

3.2TL - Returning for its second year, the sales-leading Acura 3.2TL has achieved benchmark status in the areas of technology, performance, safety and style in the premium performance sedan segment. The TL's 225-horsepower, all-aluminum V6 powerplant with the legendary VTEC system benefits from a new manifold design, revised intake ports and larger intake and exhaust valves to provide increased mid-range torque and quicker acceleration. In addition, the 2000 3.2TL meets tough Low Emissions Vehicle (LEV) standards - Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) standards on California models.

An all new, 5-speed ShortShift sequential automatic transmission allows the 2000 TL to accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour half a second quicker than last year's model, while allowing for lower RPM's at cruising speeds for increased fuel economy and a quieter ride.

The TL also benefits from the safety of a dual stage passenger and advanced side airbag system, similar to the technology in the flagship 3.5RL sedan. The side air bag system incorporates seven sensors in the passenger seatback that disable the side air bag from inflating if a small child is in the air bag's deployment path. In addition, the Acura Navigation System DVD innovations on the RL have also been incorporated into the 2000 3.2TL.

Integra - Rounding out the Acura family for 2000 are the Integra GS-R, GS and LS Sports Sedans and Sports Coupes, which offer race-inspired innovations, sporty, free-revving engine response, crisp precise handling and an ergonomic driving environment.

The 2000 model year also sees the return of the Integra Type R, the high performance brainchild of racing engineers. The Type R is powered by an all-aluminum, 1.8-liter Integra 4-cylinder powerplant that has been modified to produce 195-horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 130 lb.-ft. of torque at 7,300 rpm, making it one of the most powerful 4-cylinder powerplants available in America today. Numerous other performance upgrades, coupled with an exclusive appearance package complete the unique features of the Integra Type R.

"Over the past 14 years, Acura has revolutionized the performance luxury segment by engineering inventive products that continue to set new standards in the marketplace," said Colliver. "The 2000 model line will take us to new heights in technological and performance-oriented innovations."

All 2000 model year Acura vehicles are covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty. Additional ownership benefits include Acura Total Luxury Care (TLC), which provides free 24-hour roadside assistance, concierge service and trip routing.
