American Honda Reports Record January Light Truck Sales

American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted January sales of 81,504 Honda and Acura vehicles, down 2.1 percent on a daily selling rate basis from a record-setting January 2004, the company announced today. Boosted by record January sales of the Honda Pilot and strong performances by the new Odyssey, CR-V and Acura MD-X, American Honda light truck sales hit a record high of 35,521 units in January, an increase of 6.0 percent over year-ago results.

"With annual sales increases for each of the past 11 years, we have set our sights on continued growth in 2005, despite a highly competitive market," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda. "The addition of new models including the Ridgeline truck and a full year of sales for the all-new Odyssey, Accord Hybrid and Acura RL should push us to another record year in 2005."

Honda Division January sales of 67,840 were off 4.6 percent from last year's record results. Boosted by record results for the Pilot, Honda Division light truck sales of 31,564 were up 6.4 percent on a daily selling rate basis. CR-V and Odyssey also posted gains of 4.9 percent and 11.1 percent, respectively.

Acura Division sales rose 12.7 percent to a new record January result of 13,664 on record sales of the all-new RL luxury sedan, up 203.7 percent to 1,371, and the TSX sports sedan, up 30.1 percent to 2,246.
