Statement by Acura Regarding Fuel Tank Recall: 2014-2019 Acura ILX

  • 4,455 vehicles affected in the United States by issue that can lead to inaccurate fuel gauge reading
  • Fuel tanks will be inspected and, if needed, replaced, free of charge
  • No related crashes or injuries have been reported

Acura will voluntarily recall 4,455 model-year 2014-2019 ILX vehicles in the United States to inspect and, if needed, replace the fuel tanks, free of charge.

An improper manufacturing process led to deformities in the bottom of certain fuel tanks that can raise the height of the fuel pump and reduce the clearance between the fuel float and the tank's inner wall. Fuel movement within the tank can cause the fuel float to stick along the inner wall, resulting in inaccurate fuel gauge measurements. In the worst case, based on an inaccurate fuel gauge display, a vehicle could unexpectedly run out of fuel and stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Acura has received no reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue.

Acura is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer for repair as soon as they receive notification from Acura. Mailed notification will occur in early-March 2019. Owners of 2014-2019 ILX vehicles can also determine if their vehicles require repair by visiting www.recalls.acura.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
