Statement by American Honda Regarding Rear Seat Belt Retractor Recall: 2019 Honda Clarity

  • 128 vehicles are affected in the United States
  • Rear seat belt retractors will be inspected and, if needed, replaced, for free
  • No reported injuries

American Honda will voluntarily recall 128 model-year 2019 Honda Clarity Electric, Fuel Cell and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles in the United States to inspect and, if needed, replace rear seat belt retractors, for free. Certain incorrectly manufactured rear seat belt retractors may not lock the seat belt in place during a crash, potentially increasing the risk of injury to occupants. Honda has not received any report of injury related to this issue.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage each owner or lessee of an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to owners will occur in mid-July 2020. Owners of these models can also determine if their specific vehicles are included in the recall by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
