American Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 9,200 Ridgeline pickup trucks equipped with all-wheel-drive (AWD) from the 2017 model year to inspect and, if needed, repair the rear wire harness, free of charge. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue, which was discovered through warranty claims.
An inappropriate wiring splice made by the wire harness supplier may result in moisture intrusion into the harness and an electrical coupler under the truck bed. Moisture in these areas may create electrical shorts that can lead to warning lights on the vehicle dashboard or, in rare cases, unintended activation of the brakes through the Vehicle Stability Assist system, increasing the risk of a crash.
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage each owner of an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer for repair as soon as they receive mailed notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will begin in late-January 2017, and some of the required replacement parts may not be available until that time. Additionally, owners of these vehicles can determine now if their vehicles will require inspection, when parts become available, by going to www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
