Formed as an expansion of the Indianapolis-based Team Green organization, Team Motorola became part of the top echelon of CART Champ Car competition in its first race, as Honda-powered driver Michael Andretti debuted with a fourth place finish at the Grand Prix of Monterrey.

The team continued to be a force in the championship battle throughout the season, with former series champion Andretti combining a victory at Toronto with eight additional top six race results to finish third in the year-end standings.

In addition to Team Motorola, Green continues to field the two-car Team KOOL Green effort of Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy. The teams operate in a technical partnership, sharing shop facilities and basic setup information, but functioning as separate teams on race weekends.

Team Green was founded in 1993 as Forsythe-Green Racing, a Formula Atlantic team with Barry Green and Gerald Forsythe as initial partners. After dominating the Atlantic championship in 1993, the team moved up to Champ Cars with Jacques Villeneuve as the driver, winning the Indianapolis 500 and CART championship in 1995.

Forsythe left to form his own CART team that year, and Barry Green's brother Kim, a veteran team manager in his own right, joined the operation. With the arrival of Honda power and drivers Franchitti and Tracy in 1998, Team Green has won races and contended for the series championship in every season.
