“This week, the U.S. EPA released its latest fuel economy trends report, again recognizing Honda as the most fuel-efficient, low CO2 emissions full-line automaker, with gains in efficiency more than double that of the industry at large. In fact, over the past two decades, Honda has achieved an annual average improvement in fuel efficiency for our U.S. car and light-truck vehicle fleet of 3.0 percent versus an industry average of 1.7 percent.
Building on our leadership position in reducing greenhouse gas emissions is at the center of our effort to address society’s most pressing environmental challenge – global climate change. We view electrification as an essential technology to reduce CO2 emissions and meet the diverse needs of our customers worldwide.
In North America, we have plans to introduce compelling BEVs for our customers who find the notion of an all-electric mobility experience both practical and exciting. In the near term, we will greatly expand the application of our hybrid-electric technology to our core models in order to rapidly grow sales of more fuel-efficient, low-emissions electrified vehicles that will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The introduction this week of the 2020 CR-V Hybrid demonstrates our commitment. The CR-V is our best-selling vehicle, and the best-selling crossover in America over the past 23 years, so hybridization will make a significant and immediate impact on our company’s CO2 footprint.
