Rough Weekend for Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 in SRO GT World Challenge America at NOLA

  • Two off-track excursions dash Racers Edge Motorsports’ opportunity at the GT World Challenge America Pro class podium on Saturday and Sunday
  • Racers Edge Motorsports NSX GT3 Evo22 showed strong performance for majority of both weekend races, defending top-three positions for the first hour of each race

Following their first Pro class victory at Sonoma, Racers Edge Motorsports started strong in both GT World Challenge America weekend races at NOLA Motorsports Park—defending top-three positions for the first hour of each race—but off-track excursions in the last 30 minutes landed the team fifth-in-class by the checkers on Saturday and Sunday.

Heavy rain delayed Saturday’s race by nearly two-and-a-half hours due to standing water on the track, leading drivers to start on wet tires as the weather started to clear. Harrison started third in Pro and fifth overall in the Racers Edge Motorsports machine, consistently running the quickest lap times among the Pro class. She maintained her class position and climbed to third overall before the pit window opened.

Teammate Mario Farnbacher started on slicks and was in close battle to take second in the Pro class, but a safety car was dispatched less than 10 minutes into his stint after another racer suffered a contact-induced tire blowout. This closed the gap between first and second, putting victory in Farnbacher’s sights.

Farnbacher quickly took second in class and overall, but just as he reeled in the race leader with 20 minutes remaining, he hit a wet part of the track in Turn 5, which sent him spinning into the gravel trap and unable to restart without a tow. Farnbacher finished 16th overall and fifth in class.

Farnbacher started on the Pro class pole Sunday, seventh overall, with three Pro-Am cars between him and the next Pro class racers on the grid. Contact with another racer in the first corner dropped Farnbacher to third in class and 11th overall, but he climbed back to first in class and eighth overall before Harrison took the wheel.

Harrison defended the class lead for 20 minutes, but contact between her Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 and the second-in-class racer sent her spinning into the same Turn 5 gravel trap that stranded Farnbacher the day before. Harrison also finished 16th overall and fifth in class.
