Honda finishes second in TCR manufacturers’ championship following IMPC season finale at Road Atlanta

  • Honda closes Michelin Pilot Challenge campaign with runner-up manufacturer finish
  • Honda adds seventh pole of the season at Road Atlanta, second-consecutive front row lockout
  • MMG earns top three result in drivers’ and teams’ standings
  • Pegram Racing matches season-best finish of sixth place

The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season finale—the FOX Factory 120 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta—saw Honda wrap up its 2026 TCR campaign as vice-champions in the Manufacturer Championship, with the #93 MMG Honda Civic Type R TCR of Karl Wittmer and LP Montour also finishing third in the Drivers’ and Teams’ championships.

Honda continued its strong qualifying performance in TCR Pilot Challenge competition, capturing another front-row lockout and setting a new TCR track record at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

MMG took a different approach to qualifying, putting Karl Wittmer behind the wheel of the #93 Honda. Wittmer delivered a track-record-setting lap to secure pole position ahead of the #5 TMR Honda of Rocco Pasquarella, giving Honda a second consecutive front-row lockout, and HRC’s second of the weekend as Acura accomplished the same feat in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship qualifying.

MMG controlled the opening stint, leading the field throughout while TMR maintained a strong position in third. The race remained green until a caution with 70 minutes remaining changed the complexity of the second half, turning the remainder of the race into a fuel-management contest.

During the next pit-stop cycle, MMG lost a couple of positions, promoting TMR to second. With limited opportunities for passing and fuel consumption becoming the main focus, the leading cars settled into formation and managed their pace in an effort to reach the finish without an additional stop.

The #89 HART Honda took a different strategic approach, electing to pit early for a short fuel stop in hopes that the leading competitors would be unable to make it to the end. Meanwhile, MMG and TMR continued to run near the front in second and third with just 10 minutes remaining.

With seven minutes to go, TMR was forced to pit after suffering a puncture, ending its hopes of a podium finish. The #72 Pegram Racing entry was also forced to make a late stop with five minutes remaining for a splash of fuel.

Then, with just two laps left, MMG was struck by a GS-class competitor on the front straight, abruptly ending their strong run just before the white flag.

Nevertheless, MMG completed a strong championship campaign, finishing third in both the TCR Drivers' and Teams' Championships with 2,620 points. Honda secured second place in the Manufacturers' Championship with 3,140 points.
