Statement by Acura Regarding Right Driveshaft Recall: 2016-2019 Acura ILX

  • Approximately 50,000 vehicles affected in the United States by issue that can lead to a loss of motive power or potentially allow a vehicle to roll while in the parking gear
  • Right driveshaft will be inspected and, if needed, it and the right half shaft will be replaced, free of charge
  • No related crashes or injuries have been reported

Acura will voluntarily recall approximately 50,000 model-year 2016-2019 ILX vehicles in the United States to inspect and, if needed, replace the right driveshaft and half shaft, free of charge.

An excessive amount of grease may have been applied during right driveshaft production, preventing the driveshaft from fully setting into the half shaft. If the driveshaft is not fully set, it can separate from the half shaft as the car moves, potentially causing a loss of motive power or allowing the vehicle to roll while in the parking gear, if the parking brake is not activated, both increasing the risk of a crash. Acura has not received any reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue.

Acura is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer for repair as soon as they receive notification from Acura. Mailed notification will occur in late-July 2019. Owners of 2016-2019 ILX vehicles can also determine if their vehicles require repair by visiting www.recalls.acura.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
