Defect / Noncompliance Description

*Describe the defect or noncompliance:

Due to a manufacturing defect of the engine crankshaft, the connecting rod bearing can prematurely wear and seize.

*Describe the safety risk:

If the connecting rod bearing seizes, the engine can be damaged and run improperly, stall, stop while driving, and/or not start, increasing the risk of a fire, crash or injury.

Identify any warning which can precede or occur:

Abnormal engine noise, engine stalling, and/or decreased engine output with engine check lamp illumination.

Describe the cause:

During production of the crankshaft, due to improper settings of equipment used to manufacture the engine crankshaft, the crank pin was improperly ground, resulting in crank pins with a crown or convex shape that are out of specification.

Identify the Remedy

Describe the defect / noncompliance remedy program, including the manufacturer's plan for reimbursement:

Registered owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer, as applicable. The dealer will inspect and, if necessary, repair or replace the engine.

Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense will be eligible for

reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.

Describe what distinguishes the remedy component from the recalled component:

The remedy components have properly ground crank pins and are within applicable specifications.

Identify the Recall Schedule

Describe the recall schedule for notifications:

Dealer notification is scheduled to being and end on or about 11/9/2023. Owner notification is scheduled to begin and end on or about 1/2/2024.
